About Base

Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.

About the Role

Market analysts own Base’s point of view on the energy markets and products we participate in — both wholesale markets like ERCOT and PJM and novel distribution channels like TDU-leased energy storage. You’ll build and maintain the models that identify where value exists for Base’s fleet, and you’ll be the one who has to defend that opinion before Base commits capital or signs a deal.

This role sits closer to broad market analysis than day-to-day trading. The best candidates combine rigorous data science with real fluency in how wholesale energy markets work, and can turn that analysis into clear, well-vetted recommendations for the rest of the company.

What You’ll Do
  • Model coincident peak (CP) timing and how it evolves year-over-year in markets like PJM and ERCOT, and benchmark results against commercially available forecasts

  • Model the impact of CP reform in ERCOT and what it means for how Base needs to reshape its book

  • Compile polished reports on operational performance for internal teams and external stakeholders, including presentations at ISOs

  • Determine when and where Base should deploy a 4-hour battery solution, and where the absence of solar leaves us blocked

  • Maintain a tested, heavily vetted opinion on any energy market or product Base is considering selling into

What You’ll Bring
  • Fluency in data science and data visualization — you choose the right analytical approach for categorical versus continuous data, and turn complex network behavior into charts that drive clear business decisions

  • Comfort with modern operational tools like SQL and Grafana for fleet telemetry analysis

  • Deep understanding of wholesale energy market operations (e.g., ERCOT), including real-time arbitrage, ancillary services, and grid-service control loops

  • Working knowledge of unit commitment, economic dispatch, and production cost modeling

  • Nice to have: experience deploying machine learning models to production, deep fluency in Python and pandas, and depth in a statistical subfield like extreme value theory or stochastic processes

  • Nice to have: commercial instincts — you understand how energy engineering maps to economic reality (for example, how ITC and PTC support renewables) and can form views that hold up when they’re used to underwrite real decisions

About the Team

Base’s Risk & Trading team turns the grid-service capability of our distributed battery fleet into revenue. That means building and defending the models that decide which markets and products Base participates in, from real-time arbitrage to multi-year distribution deals. The team’s calls carry real weight — a mis-modeled coincident peak or an unvetted market opinion shows up directly in Base’s book. You’ll work alongside traders, market operations engineers, and policy leads who bring the same rigor to distribution-scale energy that a trading desk brings to wholesale power.

Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.

Our Values
  • First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.

  • Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.

  • Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.

  • Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.

  • Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.

  • Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.

  • Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.

Do the best work of your life at Base.
