About us

The world is electrifying. As we plug in more devices and services, we need new ways to connect to power.

The traditional, one-size-fits-all utility approach, with complicated bills and frustrating customer service, no longer works. At Light, we make it easy to get affordable, renewable electricity by embedding power with the products that consumers already use, from the companies they love.

Light's mission is to power a sustainable and abundant energy future for everyone. We do it by making any company able to sell electricity. With Light's utility-as-API platform, companies from automakers and solar providers to real estate and beyond can offer their own, integrated electricity plans.

Imagine purchasing an electric vehicle that includes unlimited home charging, or solar panels that come bundled with any excess energy you might need from the grid. We're building the flexible future where clean energy shows up wherever customers already are.

We're a Series A company based in Austin, TX. We've found meaningful traction and are now investing aggressively in growth. Join us in building the digital energy infrastructure for the next century of power.

The role

Your mission is to make embedded electricity feel inevitable and establish Light as the company defining the category.

You'll join as Light's founding marketing leader, working directly alongside the founders and GTM team to sharpen how we position Light and bring that story to market. You'll help codify our category narrative, translate a complex product and business model into compelling positioning across the markets we serve, and build the marketing function that turns those stories into awareness, demand, and growth.

As our first marketer, you'll be a hands-on generalist across positioning and messaging, content and collateral, launches and campaigns, partner marketing, PR and communications, social and earned media, field and events, and whatever else helps get Light in front of the right companies. You'll establish what works, build the systems behind it, and eventually hire and develop the team to scale it.

This is an opportunity to join at an inflection point: a powerful company thesis to amplify, a growing set of partners and markets to tell stories about, and the resources to build something ambitious, while still early enough that your point of view will shape how Light shows up in the world.

In your first six months, you will:
  • Define and own Light's category narrative. Work closely with the founders to nail the "why now" for embedded electricity and build the story that establishes Light as the company defining the category.

  • Build a messaging system that scales. Translate one overarching Light narrative into differentiated positioning for home electrification, mobility, real estate, fintech, data centers, and our next markets.

  • Build our marketing engine from zero. Determine where and how Light should show up across PR, content & communications, partner marketing, social and earned media, field and events, and other marketing channels.

  • Turn narrative into GTM leverage. Work closely with Product, Sales and Partner Success to create the stories, content, case studies, and collateral that generate interest and help move important opportunities forward.

  • Put Light into the broader conversation. Create moments and build relationships that make Light visible in the conversations shaping the future of energy, electrification, and the economy.

  • Build the foundation for a world-class marketing function. Establish the systems, processes, measurement, agencies, and priorities behind the work, then begin building the team that can scale it.

You would describe yourself as:
  • A category and narrative builder who has helped turn something new or complex into a story people understand, remember, and repeat.

  • Exceptional at positioning, capable of turning complex products and business models into simple, differentiated messaging that works across markets and audiences.

  • A systems thinker who can build one powerful brand and messaging system while adapting it to very different customers, markets, and use cases.

  • Strategic and hands-on, equally comfortable defining what a company should stand for and rolling up your sleeves to get the story into market.

  • A marketer with range across positioning and messaging, content, communications, earned media, partnerships, events, and other channels, with strong judgment about where to focus.

  • An entrepreneurial builder who thrives in ambiguity, has strong taste and a point of view, and is excited to create a marketing function rather than inherit one.

  • An experienced marketing leader with roughly 8–10+ years of experience, ideally having helped shape a category or narrative at an ambitious technology or platform company.
