Job Summary

TYLin’s Rail + Transit team is expanding in New York City, and we’re seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer who is passionate about mechanical design for transit infrastructure. This role is ideal for a licensed PE with 5 - 10 years of experience who wants to design innovative HVAC and tunnel ventilation systems for some of the region’s most complex transit projects, including MTA and Amtrak facilities.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the mechanical design of transit stations, tunnels, and maintenance facilities, focusing on HVAC, tunnel ventilation, and related systems.

  • Develop contract drawings, specifications, and technical reports for project deliverables.

  • Perform engineering calculations and system modeling to optimize performance, efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

  • Ensure designs comply with NFPA, ASHRAE, NYC building codes, and other relevant standards.

  • Collaborate with architects, structural, and electrical engineers to deliver fully integrated designs.

  • Participate in design reviews, QA/QC processes, and provide technical guidance throughout project delivery.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s a plus).

  • PE license required in New York (or eligible for reciprocity).

  • 5–10 years of mechanical design experience, preferably in rail, transit, or complex urban building systems.

  • Expertise in HVAC and tunnel ventilation system design.

  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality design packages on schedule.

  • Strong knowledge of NFPA, ASHRAE, NYC building codes, and industry best practices.

  • Excellent technical judgment, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communicator who thrives in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.

TYLin is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $80,000 - $120,000 annually for this position and local market.
