About the Role

Join the Customer Support Technology (CS Platform) team building the systems that power eBay’s global customer service experience.

This is a full-stack engineering role where you will:

  • Build scalable backend services and APIs

  • Develop user-facing web applications and agent tools

  • Contribute to AI-powered platform capabilities, including orchestration layers and automation systems

You will work on workflow systems, automation platforms, and UI experiences that improve agent productivity and customer outcomes.

This is a hands-on IC role:

  • ~60–70% coding/design (frontend + backend)

  • ~30–40% reviews, collaboration, and operational excellence

You’ll own features end-to-end (UI → services → data → actions).

Must-Have Qualifications
  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience

  • 4–8 years of full-stack software development experience

Backend:

  • Strong proficiency in Java (11+) and Spring Boot

  • Experience building REST APIs and distributed systems

  • Familiarity with Kafka or similar messaging systems

  • Experience with SQL + NoSQL databases

Frontend:

  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript

  • Experience with React, Angular, or similar frameworks

  • Experience building responsive, performant web applications

  • Understanding of API integration and async UI patterns

General:

  • Experience with CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes

  • Strong testing practices (unit, integration, frontend testing)

  • Solid debugging and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with customer support or workflow systems

  • Familiarity with state management (Redux, etc.)

  • Exposure to observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk)

  • Experience with OAuth2/OIDC and secure application design

  • Exposure to AI/agent-based systems, including prompt engineering, orchestration frameworks, tool/agent integration patterns

  • General familiarity with AI-assisted development concepts (LLMs, prompts, agent workflows)

  • Interest in building and evolving AI-powered systems such as orchestration layers, automation agents, and intent-driven workflows

What You’ll Do
  • Design and build end-to-end features (UI + backend services)

  • Develop scalable APIs and user-facing web applications

  • Build and enhance agent tools, workflow engines, and automation platforms

  • Contribute to AI-powered capabilities, including agent orchestration, MCP layers and workflows, intent-to-action systems

  • Write high-quality, well-tested code across the stack

  • Improve performance, scalability, and reliability

  • Participate in on-call rotations (follow-the-sun model)

  • Collaborate with Product, SRE, and cross-functional teams

  • Review code, write design docs, and improve engineering practices

  • Reduce tech debt and drive operational improvements

  • Mentor junior engineers or lead small workstreams

Additional Details

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

$118,800 - $205,600

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
