The Network Administrator will support the Texas Cyber Command on its enterprise network operations contract. This role is responsible for the day-to-day administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, documentation, and improvement of TXCC business network services across Austin and San Antonio. The candidate will support secure network operations in a high-assurance business IT environment, including segmentation, access control coordination, configuration review, and service restoration. The role requires collaboration with TXCC staff, managed service providers, carriers, hardware vendors, and site support personnel to maintain network availability, security, and operational readiness. The candidate will also assist with procurement support, asset inventory, cutover planning, migration support, vulnerability remediation, and incident-related fact gathering as requested.
Responsibilities:
- Administer, monitor, and troubleshoot enterprise LAN, WAN, wireless, VPN, and internet connectivity services across multiple TXCC office locations.
- Support and maintain routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, and wireless network infrastructure.
- Implement and maintain secure network segmentation, least-privilege access paths, and controlled network changes.
- Coordinate with carriers, managed service providers, hardware vendors, and internal support teams to resolve network service issues.
- Manage service tickets, change management processes, monitoring tools, documentation, and asset inventory practices in accordance with operational IT standards.
- Support endpoint, collaboration, identity, and cloud/SaaS dependencies that affect business network performance and user productivity.
- Develop and maintain network diagrams, capacity plans, and operational documentation.
- Assist with network procurement support, asset inventory management, cutover planning, migration support, and vulnerability remediation activities.
- Conduct incident-related fact gathering and support after-hours maintenance windows as authorized by TXCC.
- Work with TXCC staff and site support personnel to ensure network services remain available, secure, and ready for agency operations.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications
- 8 years of experience administering, operating, and troubleshooting enterprise LAN, WAN, wireless, VPN, and internet connectivity services.
- 5 years of experience with routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, wireless networks, network diagrams, and network performance monitoring.
- 5 years of experience implementing and maintaining secure network segmentation, least-privilege access paths, and controlled network changes.
- 3 years of experience coordinating with carriers, managed service providers, hardware vendors, and internal support teams to resolve network service issues.
- 3 years of experience using ticketing, change management, monitoring, documentation, and inventory practices in an operational IT environment.
- 2 years of experience supporting endpoint, collaboration, identity, or cloud/SaaS dependencies that affect business network performance and user productivity.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience with Palo Alto, Juniper, Cisco, Aruba, Meraki, or equivalent enterprise firewall, switching, and wireless platforms.
- 2 years of experience with Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Teams Rooms, VPN replacement, zero trust, or identity-governed remote access concepts.
- 2 years of experience supporting Texas public sector, higher education, critical infrastructure, CJIS, TAC 202, NIST, or similar regulated environments.
- 1 year of experience with or demonstrated equivalent of Network+, CCNA, PCNSA, JNCIA, CISSP, or a comparable certification.
Additional Requirements:
- Candidates must currently reside within 50 miles of the Austin, Texas work location. Out-of-state candidates or those planning to relocate will not be considered.
- Candidate must be a U.S. citizen.
- Candidate must pass all required background checks as authorized by Texas law.
- Occasional after-hours support may be required with TXCC prior approval.
- Any travel, per diem, parking, and/or living expenses are at the candidate's expense; pre-approved travel is subject to State of Texas travel rate requirements.
