Overview

We’re looking to add a Payroll Specialist to join our Head of Payroll and grow our payroll practice. In this role, you’ll serve as a trusted expert for our clients, managing and improving payroll processes across multiple organizations.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Alotten as we build our Payroll offering to clients.

What You'll Do

Client Delivery & Engagement

  • Process and review bi-weekly or semi-monthly payroll with a high level of accuracy.

  • Audit and verify timesheets, deductions, bonuses, commissions, and adjustments prior to each payroll cycle.

  • Maintain and update payroll records, including tax withholdings, benefit deductions, and direct deposits.

  • Reconcile payroll data and ensure alignment between HR, benefits, and finance systems.

  • Prepare and file payroll-related taxes and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Manage year-end activities such as W-2, 1099, and tax reconciliation processes.

  • Respond in a timely manner to client questions about pay, deductions, and tax withholdings with professionalism and discretion.

  • Support internal and external audits by providing payroll documentation and reports as needed.

  • Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy.

  • Growth Mindset to build HR Acumen: Desire to grow HR skills to build a bridge between payroll and HR servicesA

  • Systems and Process Champion: Comfortable navigating and optimizing payroll and HRIS platforms; identifying process gaps, recommending configuration improvements, and partnering with vendors or HR to enhance system performance.

What You’ll Bring

  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent experience.

  • Experience: 5+ years of payroll experience ideally with multiple clients or multi-entity environments

  • Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, Gusto, Paychex, etc.) and payroll-related compliance

    • Solid understanding of payroll tax laws, wage and hour compliance, and reporting requirements.

    • Experience with payroll audits, reconciliations, and year-end filings.

  • Preferred Background:

    • Experience working in or with consulting firms, outsourced payroll models, or fractional support environments

    • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
