Job Summary

TYLin is seeking a Principal Power Engineer to lead the planning and design of high-profile Rail + Transit power systems in New York City. This is a senior-level leadership position, ideal for a licensed PE with deep expertise in transit traction power, power distribution, and related infrastructure systems. The successful candidate will play a critical role in delivering major capital programs for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and other regional transit agencies.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You’ll Do:

  • Serve as technical lead and subject matter expert for traction power and electrical systems design, including substations, power distribution, and third rail systems.

  • Oversee the development of conceptual and detailed designs, technical specifications, and contract documents.

  • Ensure compliance with MTA standards, NFPA 130, NEC, IEEE, and other applicable codes and guidelines.

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to project engineers and design teams.

  • Collaborate with project managers, discipline leads, and clients to deliver high-quality, timely, and cost-effective solutions.

  • Conduct site investigations, field assessments, and support commissioning and construction phases as needed.

  • Engage with client stakeholders, including MTA C&D, NYCT, and LIRR, to define project requirements and align design strategies.

  • Support business development by contributing to proposals, technical approach development, and client presentations.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in NY (or ability to obtain promptly).

  • 15+ years of experience in the design and engineering of electrical systems for rail and transit infrastructure, with a focus on traction power and power distribution.

  • In-depth knowledge of MTA and NYCT standards, procedures, and approval processes.

  • Proven track record of delivering complex, multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects in urban environments.

  • Strong technical writing, communication, and coordination skills.

  • Familiarity with electrical system modeling tools (e.g., SKM Power Tools, ETAP) and AutoCAD or MicroStation.

Additional Information

TYLin is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $170,000 - $260,000 annually for this position and local market.
