Position Description:

Develops data platforms and software services using Spring Boot, Angular, JavaScript, and Cloud technologies. Develops RESTful Application Programming Interface (APIs) and software applications with microservices architecture hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud Infrastructure, using AWS Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), Docker, Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), Elastic File System (EFS), and AWS Lambda. Delivers Java software applications and services in a distributed environment. Develops data analysis and modelling concepts using SQL and writing stored procedures (Oracle PL/SQL). Writes automated tests using testing frameworks (Junit and Cucumber) and programs enterprise application architecture patterns with integration tools (Camel and Java Message Service (JMS)). Models and creates REST API specifications using Swagger and OpenAPI. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participates in architecture design teams.
  • Defines and implements application-level architecture.
  • Develops applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division.
  • Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.
  • Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables.
  • Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.
  • Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms.
  • Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget.
  • Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects.
  • Plans and coordinates project schedules and assignments for multiple projects.
  • Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.
  • Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.
  • Advises senior management on technical strategy.
  • Mentors junior team members.
  • Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.
  • Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) developing data platforms and software services using Java, Spring Boot, Front end frameworks, and Cloud technologies, across finance or digital media domains.

Or, alternatively, Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) developing data platforms and software services using Java, Spring Boot, Front end frameworks, and Cloud technologies, across finance or digital media domains.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise ("DE") developing APIs and data capabilities to scale, using distributed data technologies; and designing Web-based applications with microservices architecture hosted on cloud infrastructure, using Rest APIs, HTML5, JavaScript, or Angular.
  • DE developing Spring Boot applications using persistence frameworks -- MyBatis, Hibernate, or JPA; developing batch modules for bulk data processing using Java, Spring Boot, MultiThreading, or Rest APIs; and performing application modernization and migrating applications to a Cloud infrastructure.
  • DE assessing system capabilities and designing future technology architectures to align business needs with strategic technology road maps; developing RESTful APIs on AWS Cloud Infrastructure -- AWS or OpenShift; configuring AWS EKS Clusters; building and deploying Docker images on Cloud platforms (AWS EKS); and configuring, developing, and deploying instances of AWS cloud components and services required for application infrastructure and functionalities.
  • DE performing database design and development using relational databases -- PostgreSQL or Oracle; developing Java middleware applications using RESTful Web services; programming enterprise application architecture patterns using JMS; and writing automated tests using Junit or Protractor.
