Optum is a global organization that delivers care, aided by technology to help millions of people live healthier lives. The work you do with our team will directly improve health outcomes by connecting people with the care, pharmacy benefits, data and resources they need to feel their best. Here, you will find a culture guided by inclusion, talented peers, comprehensive benefits and career development opportunities. Come make an impact on the communities we serve as you help us advance health optimization on a global scale. Join us to start Caring. Connecting. Growing together.
AI agents, digital workers, workloads and machine identities are rapidly becoming part of enterprise systems, creating new challenges across authentication, authorization, governance, lifecycle management, observability and auditability. As AI agents begin acting on behalf of members, patients, providers and employees, this role will shape how they are trusted, governed and held accountable across one of the largest healthcare identity ecosystems in the country.
We are seeking a Principal Technical Product Manager to define and drive the product strategy for enterprise non-human identity (NHI) and agentic identity across consumer, workforce and shared identity platform use cases. This is an individual-contributor leadership role that operates across organizational boundaries and influences through product judgment, technical fluency and executive communication.
The role owns the enterprise NHI product strategy and roadmap, establishes prioritized outcomes and success measures, aligns dependencies across authentication, authorization, security, architecture and AI platform teams, and moves the organization from one-off proofs of concept to reusable capabilities and adoption patterns.
There is no established playbook. You will help create it. This is a 0-to-1 product opportunity for a leader who can connect identity foundations to real agentic use cases, make disciplined platform and investment choices, and turn an emerging problem space into an executable enterprise product strategy.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Enterprise NHI Product Strategy
    • Own the product vision, strategy and multi-year roadmap for enterprise non-human, machine, workload and agentic identity capabilities across consumer, workforce and shared platform use cases
    • Define the problems to solve, target outcomes, sequencing, adoption model and investment choices, while keeping the product direction durable through organizational change
    • Identify what should be common across the enterprise and where consumer, workforce or business-domain differences require distinct solutions
  • Cross-Domain Orchestration
    • Drive alignment across authentication, authorization, security, architecture, AI platform, consumer product, workforce identity and participating lines of business
    • Convert shared architecture and policy dependencies into explicit product decisions, roadmaps, requirements and accountable owners
    • Establish clear working boundaries among product, engineering, architecture, security and program management teams
  • Agent Identity, Delegation and Governance
    • Define how agents, workloads and machine identities are authenticated, authorized, sponsored, delegated, governed, observed, audited and retired
    • Shape human-to-agent delegation, least-privilege access, revocation, consent, traceability and policy-enforcement product patterns
    • Ensure agentic identity capabilities connect to enterprise authorization and human identity rather than evolving as an isolated solution
  • From Proof of Concept to Reusable Platform
    • Prioritize representative use cases and proofs of concept that validate product hypotheses and create reusable enterprise patterns
    • Translate learnings into scalable capabilities, implementation guidance, pilot plans and adoption plans
    • Partner with engineering and architecture to assess feasibility, surface tradeoffs and make evidence-based build, buy or partner recommendations
  • Executive Product Leadership
    • Translate ambiguous technical and business problems into clear strategy, priorities, roadmaps, success measures and measurable outcomes
    • Communicate recommendations, tradeoffs, risks, dependencies and investment needs to senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders
    • Build decision narratives that connect security and architecture capabilities to business value, customer enablement, risk reduction and enterprise reuse
  • Product Operations and Measurement
    • Define product health, adoption, reliability, security, auditability and business-value measures for NHI capabilities
    • Create transparent roadmaps, decision records, status updates and dependency views that support shared execution
    • Monitor industry standards, market direction and vendor capabilities, and lead vendor outreach and evaluation in a rapidly developing product space

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of product management experience in identity, security, platform, infrastructure, AI platform or similarly technical enterprise products
  • Demonstrated experience translating ambiguous technical problems into prioritized product decisions, requirements, adoption plans and executive recommendations
  • Demonstrated experience in identity and access management (IAM), including customer identity and access management (CIAM), identity platforms, cybersecurity or related domains, including authentication, authorization, governance and identity lifecycle concepts
  • Experience leading vendor outreach and evaluation, running proofs of concept, and shaping build-versus-buy or platform decisions
  • Solid understanding of authorization and delegated-access concepts, including least privilege, policy-based decisions and enforcement across applications or APIs
  • Demonstrated ownership of product strategy, roadmap and 0-to-1 delivery for enterprise-scale platform capabilities, including personally defining success measures and measurable business or technical outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence across engineering, architecture, security, product, business and vendor stakeholders without direct authority
  • Proven ability to communicate complex identity, security and agentic-system concepts clearly to both technical and executive audiences

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Product experience with non-human, workload, service, machine or agentic identity capabilities
  • Experience with human-to-agent delegation, agent sponsorship, token exchange, consent, revocation, auditability or related agent-governance patterns
  • Experience spanning both consumer and workforce identity domains, or leading shared capabilities across independently owned identity environments
  • Experience operating in a regulated or high-trust environment such as healthcare, financial services or government
  • Experience defining developer-facing or platform products adopted by multiple application teams or business domains
  • Familiarity with IAM and authorization standards and patterns such as OAuth 2.0/2.1, OpenID Connect, SAML, SCIM, RBAC, ABAC, PBAC, ReBAC or policy decision and enforcement patterns
  • Exposure to workload or agentic identity patterns such as SPIFFE, service-to-service identity, delegated authorization, short-lived credentials or shared security signals
  • Proven technical background in engineering, architecture, security, identity, infrastructure or platform product management

What Success Looks Like
Within the first year:
  • A defined enterprise NHI product strategy with clear consumer, workforce and shared-capability boundaries
  • A prioritized roadmap that connects immediate use cases and proofs of concept to reusable enterprise capabilities
  • Clear product dependencies and decision rights across authentication, authorization, security, architecture and AI platform teams
  • Measurable adoption, security, reliability, auditability and business-value outcomes
  • A repeatable engagement model that helps product and application teams adopt NHI capabilities without creating one-off solutions
  • Executive alignment on platform direction, investment choices, risks and sequencing
