About the Role

As the Product Manager in Payments, you will own the strategy and execution for SpotOn’s end-to-end payments experience—spanning card-present and card-not-present acceptance, transaction processing, routing, and the downstream flows that get merchants paid. You will define how payments are presented, authorized, captured, settled, and funded across our hospitality-focused ecosystem, ensuring reliability, security, and compliance while driving a best-in-class experience for restaurants and other hospitality merchants.

While your primary charter is the broader payments product, you will also partner with our money movement and remittance functions to make sure merchant funding is accurate, predictable, and transparent—ensuring the economics and timing of merchant processing show up cleanly in our product surfaces.

We are looking for a strong product leader—someone who can set a clear vision, rally engineering, design, operations, GTM, and external partners around it, and make confident trade-offs in a high-stakes, highly regulated domain. Your success will be measured by payment performance (authorization rates, latency, and resiliency), merchant satisfaction, funding accuracy, and the ability to unlock new payment capabilities that help merchants grow revenue and reduce operational friction.

Responsibilities:Payments Strategy & Execution:
  • Own the end-to-end product roadmap for payments across card-present and card-not-present environments, with a focus on hospitality use cases like table service, counter service, bars, quick-service, and multi-location groups.

  • Define how each payment media type is presented and accepted—chip, contactless, digital wallets, ecommerce tokens, and white label loyalty—and set the metrics that measure acceptance health.

  • Translate complex payment flows into simple, intuitive experiences for merchants and their staff (refunds, tips, adjustments, partial authorizations, and offline/stand-in authorization).

  • Monitor and improve key payment performance metrics—authorization rates, chargebacks, declines, disputes, latency, reconciliation accuracy—through rigorous data-driven experimentation.

  • Partner with risk, compliance, and security to ensure adherence to network rules and PCI DSS, and with GTM to package and position payment capabilities that differentiate SpotOn for hospitality.

  • Lead discovery with external processors, acquirers, gateways, and partners to evaluate new capabilities, routing options, and cost-optimization opportunities.

Money Movement & Remittance (partnership scope):
  • Partner with money movement and remittance teams to ensure merchant processing funds settle on time, with accurate fees, adjustments, and chargeback handling reflected in merchant-facing reporting.

  • Feed payment product decisions (routing, interchange optimization, surcharging/dual pricing) back into funding and remittance workflows so merchant payouts stay predictable and explainable.

Cross-Functional Leadership:
  • Act as the primary product point of contact for payments across SpotOn, aligning stakeholders around a clear vision, roadmap, and success metrics.

  • Facilitate cross-functional decision-making, balancing technical constraints, regulatory considerations, and merchant needs to arrive at pragmatic, high-impact solutions.

  • Communicate clearly and consistently with executives and senior leaders on trade-offs, risks, dependencies, and progress for payment initiatives.

  • Mentor and influence peers and adjacent product teams on payment best practices, shared capabilities, and platform standards to avoid fragmentation and duplicate solutions.

  • Contribute to a culture of accountability, urgency, and ownership, ensuring that cross-functional teams deliver high-quality releases on time and learn quickly from launches.

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of product management experience, with at least 3 years focused on payments, fintech, or closely related financial services products.

  • Demonstrated product leadership—able to set a clear vision, influence senior stakeholders, make confident trade-offs under ambiguity, and rally engineering, design, and GTM teams around shared outcomes.

  • Deep understanding of card-present and card-not-present payments, including authorization, capture, clearing, settlement, tokenization, risk, and chargeback flows.

  • Working familiarity with merchant processing economics—interchange, scheme fees, and how those show up in settlement and remittance to merchants.

  • Experience working with payment processors, acquirers, gateways, or card networks, ideally in a platform or multi-tenant merchant environment.

  • Strong analytical skills, including comfort working with large payment datasets, building dashboards, defining KPIs, and using data to drive prioritization and experimentation.

  • Proven success shipping complex, technical products that require deep collaboration with engineering and operations teams.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex payment concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Customer-centric mindset with experience conducting discovery, user interviews, and feedback sessions with merchants or similar B2B customers.

  • High degree of ownership, bias toward action, and ability to manage multiple initiatives in parallel in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Compensation:

  • Our base pay range starts at $180,000 -$225,000/year for this role

  • Please note the salary range listed is just one component of a competitive compensation package which includes a company stock plan

  • Offers will be reflective of the candidate’s location and experience.
