Job Summary

The Product Owner – API Platform is responsible for defining and executing the vision, roadmap, and product strategy for SHI’s API Platform ecosystem, including API Management (APIM), Developer Portal, and API governance capabilities. This role serves as the primary liaison between business stakeholders, architects, and engineering teams to ensure the platform delivers scalable, secure, and high-value API solutions that enable business growth, improve developer experience, and support enterprise digital transformation initiatives.
This position is required to report to the Austin, TX or Somerset, NJ office location or a hybrid basis.

Role Description

  • Own the vision, roadmap, and backlog for SHI’s API Platform, API Management (APIM), Developer Portal, and API governance capabilities.

  • Partner with business stakeholders, architects, and engineering teams to translate business needs into prioritized product features and user stories.

  • Define and prioritize product investments that improve API adoption, developer experience, and platform scalability.

  • Lead backlog refinement, sprint planning, acceptance criteria definition, and release prioritization activities.

  • Establish, monitor, and measure key performance indicators (KPIs) related to platform adoption, API consumption, reliability, and customer satisfaction.

  • Facilitate alignment across business, engineering, security, and operations teams to ensure successful delivery of product roadmap initiatives.

  • Serve as the primary decision-maker for product priorities and tradeoff discussions.

  • Communicate roadmap progress, business value, risks, and strategic priorities to leadership and key stakeholders.

  • Ability to evaluate platform performance through KPIs and data-driven insights.

  • Knowledge of API lifecycle management, API governance, and developer experience best practices.

  • Understanding of REST APIs, JSON, OAuth, OpenID Connect, and API security principles.

  • Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, microservices, and modern integration patterns.


Other Requirements

  • Completed Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or relevant work experience required

  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, Business Analyst, or in a related product leadership role.

  • Experience managing technology platforms, digital products, or enterprise integration solutions.

  • Experience working closely with software development teams and technical architects.

  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale digital transformation initiatives.

  • Experience with developer portals, developer experience initiatives, or customer-facing digital platforms.

Preferred

  • API Product Owner or API Platform Product Management experience preferred.

  • Experience with API Management platforms such as Azure API Management (APIM), Apigee, Kong, MuleSoft, or similar technologies preferred.

  • Ability to travel 10%

The estimated annual pay range for this position is $90,000 - $135,000 which includes a base salary. The compensation for this position is dependent on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location and, therefore, will vary from individual to individual. Benefits may include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending.
