Internship Summary: As a Project Management Intern, you will support the Barnhart Project Management team in planning and executing innovative heavy-lift, heavy-transport, and specialized rigging projects. This paid internship opportunity provides hands-on experience assisting with project planning, scheduling, cost tracking, customer deliverables, and operational coordination while collaborating closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Superintendents, and field teams.

The role offers exposure to all facets of the heavy rigging and transportation industry through both office-based and local field support. Internship opportunities are available nationwide across all company branch locations, providing broad geographic and operational exposure.

Responsibilities and Principal Duties:

  • Assist the Barnhart Project Management team in planning and coordinating innovative heavy-lift/heavy-transport solutions.
  • Work as directed to support Project Managers in completion of assigned tasks and required deliverables. Work includes, but is not limited to, the following:
    • Project schedule development and tracking.
    • Job cost tracking and reporting.
    • Customer submittal preparation and project documentation.
    • Project planning and execution support.
    • Initiatives that aid in project management processes and proposal creation (ex: tracking tools, reference documents, Excel templates, etc.).
  • Regular and clear communication with your Supervisor and other Barnhart team members.
  • Participate in project meetings, walkdowns, site visits, and customer interactions as needed.
  • Local field support as needed.
  • Work and act in a way consistent with the company Mission Statement and Core Values.
  • Develop understanding of all facets of the heavy rigging and transportation industry including:
    • Equipment Knowledge – Working knowledge of Barnhart equipment, load charts, features, operational best practices, and industry standard rigging equipment (ex: shackles, slings, spreader bars, etc.).
    • Project Knowledge – Understanding project planning, budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, risk management, and project execution processes.
    • People Knowledge – Must be familiar with skills and qualifications of Branch Personnel and matching those resources to project requirements.
  • Additional duties as identified by Supervisor

  • Ability to travel locally to project sites as needed.
  • Leadership potential and a desire to learn project management fundamentals.

Education: High School Diploma and pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Project Management, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to engage with the Barnhart culture in support of opportunity and project-based efforts.

Work Environment: Barnhart Branch, Barnhart equipment storage yard, project field locations, and customer project sites.
