About the Role

Broadcom's Mainframe Software Division (MSD) is the industry leader in mainframe operations software, serving the data center monitoring needs of Fortune 500 financial institutions, government agencies, and global enterprises. Our AIOps value stream powers the NetMaster and SOLVE product portfolio - providing real-time network performance monitoring, automation, and intelligent operations across z/OS mainframe environments.

We are looking for a seasoned Software Engineer who has navigated complex production mainframe environments and is ready to contribute meaningfully from day one. This is a senior individual-contributor role with a clear expectation of technical leadership - you will drive design decisions, mentor junior engineers, and serve as an escalation point for hard problems.

Education & Work Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field with 8+ years of relevant software development experience OR

  • Master's degree in a related technical field with 6+ years of relevant software development experience OR

  • PhD in a related technical field with 3+ years of relevant software development experience

Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Design, develop, and maintain product features for NetMaster and SOLVE across z/OS-based environments

  • Develop and consume SMF and zERT record data to enable network monitoring and observability capabilities

  • Produce unit tests and perform functional/integration testing to validate software quality against specifications

  • Lead design and code reviews; provide actionable technical feedback to peers

  • Serve as technical lead and escalation point for complex production issues involving customer environments

  • Coach and mentor junior engineers; support onboarding and knowledge transfer

  • Work closely with Product Owners and Architects to translate requirements into robust, maintainable software

  • Contribute to Agile ceremonies — planning, retrospectives, and end-of-iteration demos — and help identify and resolve team impediments

  • Write and maintain technical documentation covering design, logic, testing, and issue resolution

Minimum Requirements
  • 8+ years of hands-on software development experience in an IBM z/OS mainframe environment

  • Mastery of REXX scripting — this is a core skill for this role, not optional

  • Demonstrated ability to parse, analyze, and act on SMF (System Management Facility) records

  • Experience with mainframe debugging tools (XDC, IPCS, SYSLOG analysis, dumps)

  • Familiarity with network security protocols (TLS, SSH, IPSEC) and their use in mainframe environment

  • Track record working on complex, large-scale production software with real customer impact

  • Ability to work independently and determine own priorities within a general direction from management

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Assembler and/or Metal C development on z/OS — strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with zERT (z/OS Encryption Readiness Technology) records and TLS/encryption audit data

  • Solid experience with mainframe networking concepts (TCP/IP on z/OS, SNA, network performance monitoring)

  • Knowledge of JCL for executing and automating batch processes on z/OS

  • Prior exposure to NetMaster, SOLVE, or comparable mainframe network management products

  • Experience with ISPF/CLIST, IBM C, or RESTful API integration from mainframe

  • Knowledge of security ESMs (RACF, ACF2, Top Secret) and mainframe security protocols, pass tickets, certificates, keyrings

  • Familiarity with ZOWE framework — API layer

  • Source control experience in mainframe environments (Endevor or equivalent)

Business Travel & Physical Demands

Rare to occasional travel may be required for customer engagements or technical conferences. No special physical demands. Standard office environment.

Compensation & Benefits

This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus and equity awards in accordance with relevant plan documents.

Compensation and Benefits


The annual base salary range for this position is USD 109,700.00 To USD 175,500.00

All subject to relevant plan documents and award agreements.
