Position Summary

The Referral Coordinator serves as an important liaison between clinics and doctors while upholding a patient-centered and service-oriented approach. This role is responsible for the development and growth of the practice via referrals.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Establishes and fosters relationships with all optometric and other referring physicians.
  • Coordinates with the medical staff within the practice to ensure proper communication and follow-up with referring physicians.
  • Communicate with all team members to ensure good working relationship between our physicians and all referring physicians.
  • Maintains a database with pertinent information regarding referral sources of the practice and referral patterns of each individual referring physicians.
  • Correspond with patient’s web portal inquires.
  • Process incoming referrals for area of responsibility.
  • Schedules all appointments with the appropriate physician and clinic to ensure top quality care to patients.
  • Reviews the schedule status daily for the remainder of the week and the following two weeks.
  • Research complex issues across multiple databases and work with support resources to resolve patient issue.
  • Performs other duties as needed or required.

 

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience in a medical office or clinic required.
  • Experience using NextGen and ModMed is preferred
  • Prior experience in referral coordination preferred.
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Customer service skills
  • Experience in Microsoft Suite products: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently.

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
