We are looking for a Regional Social Media Producer to own and execute social marketing strategy for a new state market, helping to build up the brand, drive audience growth, and support editorial storytelling tailored to the state’s unique ecosystem.

This role is ideal for a strategic and creative marketer who understands how to activate audiences on social platforms and partner closely with local teams. You will collaborate with a local Political Correspondent to develop content that grows, activates and cultivates a new audience.

This role requires someone who is highly self-directed, resourceful, and comfortable building a social and brand strategy from scratch. As one of the first hires in the state, you will play a key role in shaping how we introduce the brand, build trust, and grow engagement in a newly launched state.

Responsibilities

Regional Social Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and execute social  strategies for a new state market, aligned to local editorial priorities and audience needs.
  • Create and manage platform-specific (ie: Meta, TikTok, Youtube/Bluesky, etc) content calendars, ensuring timely and locally resonant storytelling.
  • Build and optimize social funnels to grow followers, engagement, and conversion into deeper audience relationships (newsletter sign-ups, recurring engagement, etc.).

Content Creation & Platform Management

  • Produce state-specific social content—graphics, carousels, short-form videos, captions, and community engagement posts.
  • Edit and repurpose editorial reporting into social-first formats optimized for reach, shareability and online to offline action.
  • Manage posting schedules and daily publishing across priority platforms.
  • Use tools such as Canva, Opusclip, and CapCuti, to create polished, high-performing content.
  • Comfort being on-camera for presenter lead shortform videos as needed

Audience Growth & Community Engagement

  • Monitor platform trends and identify opportunities to expand reach in the state.
  • Engage directly with local audiences—answering comments, encouraging conversation, and building community trust.
  • Collaborate with state correspondents to amplify key reporting, explainers, and political updates.
  • Identify opportunities for  social collaboration and partnerships with local influencers, organizations, and communities.

Data, Insights & Optimization

  • Track content performance using Emplifi and platform data to refine messaging, creative production, and distribution strategies.
  • Develop weekly reports on audience growth, engagement trends, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Identify platform-specific A/B tests and iterate quickly based on insights.

The Ideal Candidate

Experience & Skills

  • 4+ years in social media management, digital audience engagement, or a similar role—ideally within a newsroom, media company, advocacy organization, or campaign environment.
  • Proven experience managing multi-platform social strategies and creating engaging content tailored to specific audiences.
  • Strong understanding of social analytics and how to turn insights into actionable strategy.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a knack for translating complex information into accessible, compelling posts.
  • Comfort creating short-form video and appearing on-camera when needed.
  • Familiarity with Canva, Emplifi, CapCut, Meta Business Suite, and similar platforms.
  • Experience working across multiple markets or tailoring messaging to local communities is a plus.

Mindset

  • Highly collaborative, proactive, and adaptable in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
  • Excited about helping launch new state markets and building trust with local audiences.
  • Creative, experimental, and data-driven, with a strong sense of platform culture and trends.
  • Passionate about values-aligned storytelling and reaching audiences underserved by traditional media.
