About the Team

AVRIDE is an autonomous driving company with the mission to make transportation safer and more efficient through cutting-edge technology. We hold a unique position in the market, developing self-driving taxis and delivery robots. Our delivery robot division already has production in the US and Japan. Our compact team consists of highly talented engineers with extensive expertise. Joining us means diving into a startup atmosphere and making a significant impact on the company's results and the autonomous industry as a whole.

About the Role

We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our robot motion planning team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing real-time planning algorithms for outdoor delivery robot. Also you will validate and evaluate the quality of your solution through offline simulations and live-ride testing, ensuring robust performance in the complex urban environments of large cities.

What You'll Do
  • Develop planning algorithms that ensures safe, smooth, and predictable movement of the robot for other agents. This includes incorporating as social aspects such as merging, negotiating narrow spaces and handling noisy, uncertain, and incomplete perception data.
  • Frame open real-world problems into well-defined engineering tasks. Develop tools, algorithms and metrics to address these challenges, including improving our simulation framework.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine the development pipeline using quantitative metrics to improve performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with planning, simulation, and perception teams to integrate your models into the full robot autonomy stack.
What You'll Need
  • 3+ years software engineering experience programming in C++
  • Strong modern C++ skills and a solid understanding of high-performance code design.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Nice to Have
  • Experience solving motion-planning or related robotics problems.
  • Experience with spatial geometry algorithms or computational geometry.
  • Familiarity with ML-based planning or control systems.

Candidates are required to be authorized to work in the U.S. The employer is not offering relocation sponsorship, and remote work options are not available.

What you need to know about the Austin Tech Scene

Austin has a diverse and thriving tech ecosystem thanks to home-grown companies like Dell and major campuses for IBM, AMD and Apple. The state’s flagship university, the University of Texas at Austin, is known for its engineering school, and the city is known for its annual South by Southwest tech and media conference. Austin’s tech scene spans many verticals, but it’s particularly known for hardware, including semiconductors, as well as AI, biotechnology and cloud computing. And its food and music scene, low taxes and favorable climate has made the city a destination for tech workers from across the country.

Key Facts About Austin Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 180,500; 13.7% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Dell, IBM, AMD, Apple, Alphabet
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, hardware, cloud computing, software, healthtech
  • Funding Landscape: $4.5 billion in VC funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Live Oak Ventures, Austin Ventures, Hinge Capital, Gigafund, KdT Ventures, Next Coast Ventures, Silverton Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Texas, Southwestern University, Texas State University, Center for Complex Quantum Systems, Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, Texas Advanced Computing Center
