Role Purpose

The Senior AI Operations Engineer is a level 6 individual contributor role focused on owning and scaling SolarWinds’ internal AI platform capabilities. This role is intended for an engineer who can operate independently, take ownership of approved AI tools and the surrounding operational controls, solve complex technical and governance problems with sound judgment, and help raise the bar for safe, scalable AI enablement across the company

Role Summary

The Senior AI Operations Engineer is responsible for designing, operating, and continuously improving SolarWinds’ internal AI services, approved AI platforms, automations, and supporting controls. The role works across platform administration, integrations, enablement, governance, and service improvement to ensure employees can adopt AI tools effectively, securely, and with minimal friction.

This engineer is expected to own medium-complexity AI operational capabilities end to end. That includes identifying root causes, implementing durable fixes, improving observability and documentation, managing access and policy-aligned usage patterns, and partnering across IT, Security, Legal, Business Applications, and Engineering to deliver scalable outcomes. The role should require limited day-to-day direction and should consistently demonstrate good judgment in prioritization, technical decisions, risk management, and execution.

Core Responsibilities

  • Own the day-to-day operation, administration, and continuous improvement of assigned IT platforms, services, or workflows.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex operational issues across systems, integrations, identity, endpoints, automation, or internal tooling.
  • Design and implement scalable, supportable solutions that reduce manual effort and improve service reliability.
  • Build and maintain automations, integrations, scripts, and operational workflows using APIs, service accounts, and platform-native tooling where appropriate.
  • Translate business or operational needs into practical technical solutions with the right balance of speed, control, and maintainability.
  • Improve documentation, standards, runbooks, and support patterns so repeated work becomes easier to execute and easier to scale.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including Security, Business Applications, Engineering, Procurement, and Corporate Functions to move work forward cleanly.
  • Identify systemic issues, process gaps, and recurring failure points, then drive corrective action rather than only addressing symptoms.
  • Support operational readiness through monitoring, reporting, auditability, change control, and service hygiene.

Qualifications

  • Independent judgment when determining solutions
  • Strong ownership of delivery and operational outcomes
  • Ability to understand how their work fits into the broader IT function
  • Proactive identification of improvements rather than waiting for direction
  • Ability to mentor and elevate less experienced team members
  • Comfort operating across technical and process boundaries
  • Clear communication with stakeholders, including concise updates, recommendations, and trade-off discussions
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in IT operations, platform engineering, systems engineering, cloud operations, DevOps, or a closely related internal technology function
  • Strong experience administering enterprise platforms or business-critical internal systems
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical and operational issues independently
  • Experience building or supporting integrations, automations, or scripts across multiple systems
  • Strong understanding of access patterns, SSO, service accounts, APIs, and operational controls
  • Ability to create clear technical documentation, standards, and runbooks
  • Experience working cross-functionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong judgment on maintainability, supportability, and operational risk
