Position OverviewThe Senior Consultant, Strategic Communications Project Management serves as the strategic and operational lead for a complex, multi-part local public health engagements. The Senior Consultant will guide project strategy, manage the integrated work of the project team, and help team members turn research, partner input, and organizational priorities into clear decisions and practical action. The role requires someone who can move comfortably between systems-level thinking and day-to-day execution, anticipate risks and dependencies, and maintain momentum through a fast-moving policy and funding environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesBME Org-Wide Responsibilities for Senior Consultants (Subject Matter Experts):
- Senior Consultant roles at BME consist of approximately 85% project work, 5% administrative work, and 10% business development.
- Leads project design and attends to client relationships.
- May serve as a technical expert and/or individual contributor on highly specialized workstreams.
- Minimal project oversight needed.
- Manages projects to exemplary client satisfaction.
- Recognizes business opportunities with existing clients and works with leadership to pursue.
- Proactively does outreach and sourcing of new clients.
- Sources RFPs of interest.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Lead overall strategy, planning, implementation, and coordination.
- Translate client goals into an integrated work plan with clear phases, deliverables, decision points, dependencies, owners, and measures of progress.
- Direct and coordinate the work of project team members, subject matter experts, and other contributors.
- Facilitate client meetings, partner working sessions, decision-making discussions, and strategic planning activities that convert diverse input into clear direction.
- Manage review, quality assurance, and approval processes for project deliverables, anticipating lead times and escalating unresolved decisions when they threaten the work plan.
- Monitor scope, schedule, budget, risks, and emerging priorities; recommend adjustments that protect near-term usefulness and long-term sustainability.
- Use implementation feedback and evaluation findings to refine strategy, resources, and support approaches throughout the engagement.
- Prepare concise executive briefings, recommendations, progress reports, and transition plans.
- Help integrate communications and engagement practices into existing initiatives, governance, workflows, staff development, and future planning so the work can continue beyond the project period.
- Minimum of 6 years relevant experience including 4 or more years in a consulting firm environment required.
- Masters degree in Public Health, public policy, public administration, organizational leadership, or a related field highly preferred.
- People management experience preferred.
- Minimum 4 years client-facing experience, including 2 or more in project leadership roles.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced consulting environment.
- Role-Specific Required Experience, Qualifications, & Skills:
- Demonstrated success leading complex, multi-workstream projects ideally for public-sector clients from planning through implementation.
- Advanced project management skills, including work planning, decision tracking, risk management, scope control, quality assurance, and coordination across teams and approval processes.
- Exceptional facilitation, research synthesis, and executive communication skills, with the ability to turn complex evidence and varied partner input into clear decisions and actionable strategy.
- Role-Specific Preferred Experience, Qualifications, & Skills:
- Knowledge of state and local public health systems, municipal government, and the policy and funding environment affecting local public health.
- Experience managing projects in a communications, media, or design-related field.
- Experience with organizational change, governance, and operationalizing a new function across a complex organization.

- This is a full-time position based in a home office environment within the U.S., with preference for candidates working East Coast hours.
- BME Strategies is a remote-first organization. Occasional travel to client sites, conferences, trainings, or meetings is anticipated for this role.

- The salary range for this position is $91,520 - $151,840 annually.
Please note: New employees are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint, dependent upon internal equity and the budgeted amount for the position.
