​​About the Role:

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Database Administrator to design, maintain, and build the database infrastructure that powers Upgrade’s core operations. This includes managing data storage, performance, and access. In addition, you’ll contribute to the development of new database solutions to scale with growing business needs.


What You’ll Do:

  • Configure, monitor, maintain, and improve the performance and reliability of SQL Server databases and data stores
  • Participate in all database related activities such as backup & recovery, upgrades, patching, and performance tuning
  • Collaborate with different engineering teams to define and implement best practices for database operations to evolve and scale our SQL Server database architecture
  • Develop standards and procedures to optimize DBMS performance, scalability, resilience, security, and data integrity for SQL Server
  • Be on-call for supporting SQL Server clusters
  • Provide production environment support in AWS and debug database issues as needed
  • Identify areas to introduce and develop automation tooling to help improve efficiency in database administration


What We Look For:

  • 5+ years administering production, always-on, high throughput, OLTP RDBMS on Microsoft SQL Server in AWS environment
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL query execution, execution analysis & optimization, indexing strategies, partitioning etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL schema modeling and evolution
  • Experience with geo-redundant database deployments (active/active, active/standby, etc.) is a plus
  • Solid Windows fundamentals including kernel, filesystem and OS tuning, as they relate to DB performance and security
  • Knowledge of MSSQL replication strategies (log shipping, etc.) and Always On Availability Groups
  • Knowledge of how MSSQL Change Tracking (CT) and MS-CDC work
  • Good proficiency with PowerShell
  • Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
  • Highly motivated and self driven individual
  • Interest in learning new technologies and applying that to solving problems
  • Effective collaboration skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent multitasker and ability to thrive in fast-paced environments
  • Methodical, thorough, and solution oriented


Nice to Have:

  • Proficiency with Ansible on Windows
  • Experience supporting Linux-based MSSQL instances
