Mission of the Role:

The mission of the Senior DevOps Engineer is to design, build, and maintain resilient, scalable cloud infrastructure that accelerates engineering productivity and ensures our systems are secure, observable, cost-efficient, and highly available.

Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the Senior DevOps Engineer will partner closely with product engineering, data, and cross-functional stakeholders to evolve our AWS- and Kubernetes-based platform, drive automation initiatives, and strengthen operational excellence across the organization.


Essential Functions and Impact Areas:

  • Architect, implement, and maintain scalable AWS cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code best practices.
  • Manage and optimize Kubernetes clusters on Amazon EKS, ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient container orchestration.
  • Build, maintain, and enhance Terraform modules and configurations to support consistent, automated provisioning across environments.
  • Develop and refine CI/CD pipelines to support rapid, safe, repeatable deployments.
  • Implement and improve observability systems—including Datadog and Grafana—to enhance monitoring, alerting, and system insight.
  • Improve performance, reliability, and scaling for Aurora MySQL database clusters.
  • Identify and resolve infrastructure and production issues, providing technical leadership during incident response and post-incident reviews.
  • Partner with development teams to adopt DevOps best practices and improve overall system health and operational efficiency.
  • Drive automation initiatives to reduce manual effort and improve infrastructure reliability and maintainability.
  • Perform routine system maintenance, including security patching, configuration updates, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, contributing to a healthy and sustainable operational support model.
  • Role model strong engineering, cultural, and process standards, and contribute to ongoing improvements in our platform architecture.

Requirements

Minimum Skills & Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or cloud infrastructure roles supporting production systems.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with AWS services and cloud architecture patterns.
  • Production experience managing Kubernetes clusters using Amazon EKS.
  • Proficiency with Terraform for Infrastructure-as-Code automation and state management.
  • Experience with Datadog for infrastructure and application monitoring.
  • Hands-on experience with Grafana for dashboarding and visualization.
  • Strong background with MySQL databases, ideally Amazon Aurora.
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
  • Working understanding of cloud security, networking, and compliance best practices.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash.
  • Proficiency with Git and version control workflows.
  • Experience supporting architectural patterns of large, high-scale systems.
  • Familiarity with automated testing, continuous integration, and other modern engineering workflow practices.
  • Leadership: able to define and deliver well-scoped infrastructure milestones, provide guidance on technical decisions, and work autonomously while staying aligned with team strategy

Location:

  • This is a remote position, but preference will be given to candidates who are located near or willing to travel to our Los Angeles or San Diego hubs.

Compensation:

The estimated base salary range for this role is $180,000 – $200,000 per year, plus a competitive equity package and benefits. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including location, skills, experience, and job-related expertise.
