Position Description

The Senior Director Functional Safety leads a team of 40+ engineers who work on the Functional Safety aspects of new products development. This team includes people who perform direct work on the Functional Safety Architecture and Functional Safety Management of new products, as well as those who define and develop intellectual property (IP) and assets for reuse across NXP’s products in development (NPIs – New Product Introductions). It may also include leading activities related to Customer Support and Enablement of functional safety. The team currently resides in Austin, Texas USA; Milan, Italy; Toulouse, France; Noida, India; Bangalore, India; Munich, Germany; Glasgow, UK; Hamburg, Germany; and Nijmegen, Netherlands. This is a 2nd -line management position (manager of) reporting to the Vice President of Global Safety in the organization led by NXP’s Chief Technology Officer. The key stakeholders/interfaces of this role are the leadership teams of the NXP Product Lines, the IP development teams, and the business-aligned and central teams in Functional Safety.

Position Objectives / Deliverables

As part of the Functional Safety management team, be a change-maker to help transform Functional Safety into a clear differentiator for NXP, making NXP safety iconic. Empower team managers to drive development and delivery of Functional Safety for all NXP microcontroller, microprocessor and analog products. Spearhead roadmap definition and technology development of IP and reuse assets to efficiently deliver functional safety for NXP’s new product roadmap. Champion Customer Support and Enablement activities driven by a leader in your team. Drive alignment on best practices for functional safety product development across your team as well as with the other hardware and software safety development teams. Spearhead development of new capabilities, including use of AI, to deliver breakthrough improvements in functional safety new product development efficiency. Forge collaborative partnerships both internally and externally for new capabilities and opportunities that help address NXP’s business, quality, efficiency, etc. goals. Drive Functional Safety Technical Steering Team activities with partners across the NXP business lines, including technology roadmap.

Competences / Skills Desired

Strong organizational leadership skills. Strong execution focus along with the ability to inspire, engage, and motivate. Strong communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills. Navigate the organizational matrix, build networks, collaborate productively with others and own collective outcomes Ability to identify, drive, and balance organization performing and transforming objectives and initiatives. Good business acumen and functional safety technical know-how, ideally with some systems engineering knowledge. Ability to set and delivery a team strategy Attract the industry's best talent.  Inspire and accelerate teams to perform beyond what they think is possible and the industry's state of the art.   Expertise in coaching team members to continuously enhance capabilities. AI and requirements management knowledge nice to have.

Background / Experience Desired

Combined 10+ technical experience and expertise in functional safety, chip design, and electronic system design. Systems, hardware and software engineering knowledge and experience preferred. Knowledge of automotive and/on industrial markets from a functional safety perspective. 5 + years of experience leading a team with multiple focus topics 5+ years solid experience of leading a globally-dispersed team of managers,
