About the role

The Senior Electrical Engineer serves as the primary technical authority for electrical systems across Riot Data Centers’ hyperscale portfolio. This role owns electrical design standards, leads rigorous milestone reviews, and ensures all electrical solutions meet Riot’s requirements for uptime, safety, scalability, and operational maintainability. 

In the Engineering organization, the Senior Electrical Engineer partners with the Design Management team for delivery cadence while maintaining full accountability for electrical technical integrity from design through commissioning. 


What you'll do

Technical Authority & Standards

  • Establish, maintain, and evolve electrical design standards, specifications, and approval criteria across the portfolio,
  • Serve as the primary technical reviewer and approver for electrical deliverables across all phase gates (DD, 30/60/90/IFC).
  • Define technical requirements for critical electrical equipment including UPS, generators, switchgear, and distribution systems.
  • Own the electrical Basis of Design (BoD) and ensure alignment across all active projects.

Design Review & Risk Management

  • Review and approve consultant-produced packages ensuring compliance with internal standards and applicable codes (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, local codes).
  • Oversee and validate arc flash, short circuit, and coordination study approaches and outputs.
  • Identify technical risks related to availability, redundancy strategy, protection coordination, and constructability; drive mitigation plans.
  • Ensure cross-discipline integration (mechanical, controls, structural) is addressed through design review.

Consultant & Vendor Oversight

  • Support selection and performance management of electrical consultants, EORs, and key vendors.
  • Lead technical alignment workshops to ensure external partners meet Riot’s requirements.
  • Review submittals and shop drawings; support resolution of design conflicts through construction.

Commissioning & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide commissioning acceptance criteria inputs and review support for electrical systems.
  • Drive lessons learned capture and standards updates across the portfolio.
  • Provide executive-ready summaries of key technical decisions, risks, and tradeoffs when required.


What you'll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; PE license strongly preferred
  • 7+ years of electrical engineering experience; mission-critical/data center experience strongly preferred
  • Expertise in medium/low voltage distribution, redundancy strategies, and protection coordination
  • Experience with consultant oversight and technical approvals on large capital programs
  • Familiarity with power analysis tooling (ETAP or SKM experience preferred)
  • Strong technical writing, documentation discipline, and collaborative communication
  • Ability to travel as needed for site evaluations and commissioning events


Compensation and Benefits 

  • Competitive Salary: $180,000-$200,000 (commensurate with experience) + bonus + sign-on equity grant.
