The Senior Engineer is a hands-on, AI-first engineering role reporting to the Director of Engineering. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality software solutions across EZCORP's digital product portfolio including customer-facing mobile and web applications, e-commerce platforms, internal store applications, and enterprise integrations with AI-assisted development at the core of how work gets done.

This is a senior role that goes beyond individual contribution. The hands-on Senior Engineer is expected to lead and manage multiple concurrent projects i.e. owning technical direction, coordinating work across engineers and contractors, managing delivery timelines, and serving as the primary technical point of contact for their workstreams. AI is the force multiplier that makes this possible: the ideal candidate uses AI tools to operate at a scope and speed that traditionally required multiple engineers.

This is not a traditional engineering role with AI tools bolted on. The ideal candidate treats AI as central to the entire development lifecycle i.e. from architecture and prototyping through code generation, testing, and documentation. They excel at architecting software systems optimally structured for AI-assisted code generation: modular, well-separated codebases with clear interfaces, comprehensive type definitions, and explicit contracts that enable AI tools to generate high-quality, production-ready code.

This position requires strong full-stack expertise with frontend (React, Angular), backend (Node.js), cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS), and database technologies, combined with hands-on experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into production systems and a deep understanding of how to structure code and workflows for AI collaboration.

PROJECT & TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP

• Lead and manage multiple concurrent projects simultaneously - owning technical direction, delivery timelines, and quality outcomes across parallel workstreams
• Break down complex initiatives into executable plans - features, milestones, dependencies, risks and drive them to completion
• Coordinate and direct the work of other engineers and contractors across distributed teams (US, LATAM, India), ensuring consistent standards and velocity
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for assigned projects - providing status, surfacing risks early, and communicating tradeoffs to engineering leadership and product stakeholders
• Conduct code reviews across projects, enforcing quality standards for both human-written and AI-generated code
• Mentor engineers on AI-assisted development practices, architectural patterns, and delivery discipline
• Balance hands-on execution with delegation - knowing when to build, when to direct, and when to unblock others

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, build, and maintain full-stack applications using React, Angular, and Node.js across EZCORP's digital product portfolio
• Solve complex problems related to scalability, reliability, performance, and reusability
• Work with Product Managers, UX Designers, and engineers to understand and refine features using agile methodologies
• Establish industry-standard QA automation - leveraging AI to generate test plans, unit tests, and automation suites in parallel with development
• Support the build and management of backend infrastructure including integrations with third-party vendors and internal platform services
• Contribute to a maintainable, high-quality, performant codebase structured for both human maintainability and AI-assisted extensibility
• Explore, assess, and prototype new technologies to drive innovation and problem solving
• Actively engage in product and technical discussions for feasibility and adherence to overall roadmaps and architectural strategy

AI ENGINEERING & AI-ASSISTED DEVELOPMENT

• Leverage AI coding tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) as primary accelerators for development, code review, and refactoring
• Prototype and validate solutions rapidly using AI-assisted development compressing proof-of-concept cycles from weeks to days
• Design and integrate AI/ML capabilities into platform services, including:
  • LLM integration (Azure OpenAI, Gemini, Claude) for intelligent features and automation
  • Computer vision workflows (e.g., product identification, document scanning)
  • Vector search and RAG pipelines (Azure AI Search, pgvector) for semantic search and data matching
  • Intelligent data processing and workflow automation
• Build and maintain agentic workflows and AI-augmented pipelines that operate within defined governance and human-in-the-loop controls
• Follow and contribute to EZCORP's AI governance standards - code generation guardrails, review requirements, and documentation practices
• Ensure quality and security of AI-generated code through rigorous review - AI accelerates, humans validate
• Stay current on emerging AI tools, models, and practices; recommend and drive adoption where beneficial

PRODUCTION OPERATIONS & RELIABILITY

• Support production operations and reliability for team-owned systems
• Participate in on-call rotation and incident response for assigned applications
• Conduct root cause analysis for production issues and implement preventive measures
• Monitor application performance using observability tooling (Datadog, Dynatrace), identify optimization opportunities, and implement improvements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• 7+ years of software development experience, including:
  • 3+ years building production applications with React and/or Angular
  • 3+ years developing backend services using Node.js
  • 2+ years leading projects or technical workstreams — coordinating engineers, managing delivery, and owning outcomes
• Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent projects and shifting priorities without dropping quality or timelines
• Demonstrated hands-on experience using AI coding tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) in real production workflows and not just experimentation
• Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into production systems — LLM APIs, computer vision, vector search, or intelligent automation
• Experience designing APIs, data models, and system interfaces with explicit contracts that enable AI tools to generate correct implementations
• Experience with Azure and AWS services preferred
• Experience with mobile development (React Native, iOS/Android) preferred
• Experience in the financial services or retail industry preferred
• Experience working with distributed/offshore teams preferred
• Strong architectural thinking and ability to design systems that balance human maintainability with AI-assisted extensibility
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including ability to explain architectural decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders and mentor others on AI-assisted development
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
