VAST Data is looking to add a Director of Development, Web Platform to our growing team!

This is a great opportunity to be part of one of the fastest-growing infrastructure companies in history, an organization that is in the center of the hurricane being created by the revolution in artificial intelligence.

"VAST's data management vision is the future of the market."- Forbes

VAST Data is the data platform company for the AI era. We are building the enterprise software infrastructure to capture, catalog, refine, enrich, and protect massive datasets and make them available for real-time data analysis and AI training and inference. Designed from the ground up to make AI simple to deploy and manage, VAST takes the cost and complexity out of deploying enterprise and AI infrastructure across data center, edge, and cloud.

Our success has been built through intense innovation, a customer-first mentality and a team of fearless VASTronauts who leverage their skills & experiences to make real market impact. This is an opportunity to be a key contributor at a pivotal time in our company’s growth and at a pivotal point in computing history.

About the Role

We’re hiring a Director of Development to define, scale, and evolve the platform that powers our global web presence. This role sits at the intersection of brand, customer experience, growth, and infrastructure — and it’s not a traditional “build what marketing asks for” position. You’ll own the technical architecture, delivery velocity, and code quality of a headless CMS ecosystem that powers 100+ projects per year with a lean team that punches well above its weight and takes the initiative.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone equally comfortable thinking at the platform strategy level and diving into deployment mechanics. You’ll bring structure, accountability, and engineering rigor to a team that has scaled faster than its processes. You’ll partner directly with the Director of Website to translate strategy into shipped work, introduce AI-native workflows that accelerate how we build, and be the person who makes sure nothing gets stuck in code review for weeks.

Success in this role means making our web ecosystem faster to build on, easier to operate, and measurably more effective as both a business engine and a product experience.

What You’ll Own

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Own the technical roadmap for our web platform, currently built on Contentful, Vercel, and Nuxt.js
  • Drive architectural decisions around performance, scalability, accessibility, and security
  • Evaluate and integrate third-party tools: Algolia (search), Qualified (chat/ABM), HubSpot (forms/marketing automation), DeepL (localization), CVENT (events)
  • Lead technical due diligence on new platform investments
  • Introduce AI-native workflows that accelerate content creation, testing, personalization, and operational efficiency across the web platform — with demonstrated expertise shipping AI-augmented features on live enterprise sites
  • Establish and enforce coding standards, PR review SLAs, and deployment best practices - including quality gates that distinguish thoughtful AI-assisted development from unreviewed AI-generated code

Delivery, Velocity & Experimentation

  • Own the development capacity model: forecast effort, flag resource gaps early, and protect the team from scope creep
  • Drive experimentation and measurement implementation strategy (A/B testing, analytics instrumentation, conversion optimization) that improve engagement and business outcomes across web surfaces
  • Shape scalable approaches for repeatable launch and campaign experiences — enabling faster iteration while maintaining a high bar, performance, and brand consistency
  • Be the escalation point when technical work is blocked — unblock it or flag it, never let it sit

Team Management

  • Manage a hybrid team of FTE developers and agency
  • Hire, onboard, and retain strong developers who thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
  • Create clear performance expectations and hold people to them

Cross-Functional Partnership & Operating Rhythms

  • Build strong operating rhythms that keep Product Managers aligned and execution moving in a fast-paced environment:intake processes, prioritization frameworks, and delivery hygiene
  • Act as the accountable owner for flagship web initiatives, driving alignment and decisive execution across cross-functional teams when priorities compete
  • Work closely with PM and Design to build a component library that accelerates delivery
  • Interface with SEO, analytics (GA4/BigQuery/Looker), and content teams to ensure technical implementations support their workflows
  • Partner with Legal and Compliance on privacy, accessibility, and governance requirements across web properties
  • Represent the development team in leadership conversations with data, not opinions
  • Own web application security posture: CSP policies, dependency vulnerability management, secure deployment practices, and incident response for web-specific threats
  • 10+ years of web development experience, with 3+ years managing developers in a marketing, digital experience, or growth engineering context
  • Links to live enterprise sites you’ve built or led development on
  • Deep hands-on experience with headless CMS architecture
  • Strong working knowledge of modern JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and API-first architectures
  • Demonstrated expertise using AI/LLM tools for enterprise web development — with live production sites you can point to as reference. We don’t want AI-curious; we want AI-leaders.
  • A sharp eye for AI-generated code quality — you can spot the difference between AI-assisted development done well and unreviewed AI slop that creates technical debt. You’ll be responsible for ensuring our codebase reflects the former, never the latter.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a high-scale web ecosystem with strong instincts for platform strategy, governance, and execution
  • Experience leading or contributing to enterprise site migrations (CMS re-platforming, domain consolidation, large-scale content migration)
  • Proven ability to manage hybrid teams (FTE + contractor) and hold people accountable for delivery timelines
  • Deep experience with experimentation and measurement — A/B testing, analytics instrumentation, attribution strategy, and conversion optimization
  • Excellent operational rigor: roadmap planning, intake/prioritization, capacity management, and delivery hygiene
  • Comfort operating at both strategic and technical levels — able to partner closely with engineers and communicate crisp trade-offs to PMs and Leadership
  • Comfort operating in fast-paced, pre-IPO or high-growth environments where process is still being built
  • Excellent written communication — you document decisions, you write clear tickets, you don’t hide behind Slack threads
  • 2+ live URLs with descriptions of your specific role in the management of the website

Nice to Have

  • Experience with our broader stack: Algolia, Qualified, HubSpot, GA4, BigQuery, DeepL, CVENT
  • Track record of modernizing marketing technology stacks and operational workflows through AI-native approaches (LLM-assisted content pipelines, automated QA, AI-driven personalization, agentic tooling)
  • Familiarity with enterprise SEO technical requirements (site speed, structured data, crawl optimization)
  • Background in web accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA) and internationalization
  • Understanding of web analytics implementation (GA4 event taxonomy, tag management, attribution)
