About the company

Our client is a cybersecurity company.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Own the machine learning and applied AI layer of a software platform, from early research through production delivery. The work spans text-processing pipelines, automated decision workflows, evaluation tooling and custom models, with a high degree of autonomy and close collaboration with a small engineering team.

What you'll do

- Build pipelines that collect public technical documents, process unstructured text and extract structured data from it.

- Design and ship automated workflows powered by large language models that reach a verdict on a given technical question.

- Create and refine evaluation systems that measure the quality of model-generated outputs and automated decisions.

- Develop classifiers and NLP models that constrain and validate language model output as real-world data accumulates.

- Lead exploratory research from scoping ambiguous problems through to production-ready solutions.

- Work with teammates to turn research results into product features.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- Roughly 8 to 12 years of experience in software or machine learning engineering.

- Has shipped production systems that turn large bodies of free-form documents into clean, structured data.

- Applied machine learning experience from before the LLM era, such as text, classification or recommendation models.

- Strong Python skills and the ability to independently assemble an end-to-end LLM workflow using vendor APIs or SDKs.

- Experience building evaluation systems for LLM-driven workflows, using existing tools or a custom harness.

- Hands-on experience building text models with a standard framework such as PyTorch or scikit-learn.

- Genuine interest in security research problems.

- Based in the US or Canada, in a location away from the largest coastal tech hubs.

- Willingness to travel lightly, about once per quarter, for team meetups or conferences.

Bonus points

- Prior experience at a security company or hands-on work with vulnerability data.

What you need to know about the Austin Tech Scene

Austin has a diverse and thriving tech ecosystem thanks to home-grown companies like Dell and major campuses for IBM, AMD and Apple. The state’s flagship university, the University of Texas at Austin, is known for its engineering school, and the city is known for its annual South by Southwest tech and media conference. Austin’s tech scene spans many verticals, but it’s particularly known for hardware, including semiconductors, as well as AI, biotechnology and cloud computing. And its food and music scene, low taxes and favorable climate has made the city a destination for tech workers from across the country.

Key Facts About Austin Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 180,500; 13.7% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Dell, IBM, AMD, Apple, Alphabet
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, hardware, cloud computing, software, healthtech
  • Funding Landscape: $4.5 billion in VC funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Live Oak Ventures, Austin Ventures, Hinge Capital, Gigafund, KdT Ventures, Next Coast Ventures, Silverton Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Texas, Southwestern University, Texas State University, Center for Complex Quantum Systems, Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, Texas Advanced Computing Center
