Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering – Lodging Connectivity

The Lodging Connectivity organization at Expedia Group builds and operates the partner connectivity platform that integrates lodging supply from global partners into the Expedia marketplace. Using an in‑house platform and APIs, we enable millions of travelers to discover lodging, shop ancillaries, and access rich content via a two‑way marketplace that connects supply and demand.

We focus on scalable, high‑performance systems and are building the next‑generation connectivity platform. Our work spans APIs, tools, services, and processes for end‑to‑end partner integration. Typical technologies include Java/Kotlin, Spring, GraphQL/REST/gRPC, MSSQL, Elasticsearch, DynamoDB, Redis, AWS, Datadog, and Splunk, and we encourage experimentation with new technologies while balancing short‑ and long‑term goals.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead a North America–based software engineering team that designs, builds, and operates core services and APIs for the lodging connectivity platform

  • Set and own technical direction for your domain, including architecture, frameworks, design patterns, and the safe integration of AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes for travelers and partners

  • Drive engineering excellence through code quality, reliability, scalability, security, observability, SLAs, and automated testing and deployment practices

  • Partner closely with Product and other cross‑functional stakeholders to shape and deliver product and technology roadmaps, connecting technical decisions to measurable business and financial impact

  • Plan and execute against clear goals, milestones, priorities, and resourcing plans, proactively managing dependencies, risks, and trade‑offs to deliver predictable outcomes

  • Identify and remove delivery bottlenecks across teams, continuously improving how work flows from discovery through production and operations

  • Hire, develop, and retain diverse engineering talent through mentorship, feedback, and career guidance, building an inclusive, high‑performing culture focused on learning and continuous improvement

  • Provide clear, timely communication to technical and non‑technical audiences, ensuring consistent stakeholder alignment and transparency on status, decisions, and outcomes

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ years leading and managing engineering teams of roughly 12 or more engineers in a complex environment

  • Proven experience designing, building, and operating high‑scale, distributed systems on modern cloud platforms, with a strong focus on reliability, scalability, performance, and operational excellence

  • Hands‑on experience with AI/ML in production systems, such as applying ML models, AI‑driven services, or intelligent automation to improve product capabilities, quality, or efficiency

  • Demonstrated ability to set technical direction for a domain, evaluate technologies, weigh trade‑offs, and select appropriate architectures, frameworks, and design patterns

  • Proven track record of delivering against product and technology roadmaps, using data and metrics to measure execution health and outcomes

  • Experience leading, mentoring, and developing engineers at multiple levels, setting clear expectations and reinforcing a strong, inclusive engineering culture

  • Proficient communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to translate complex technical topics into clear, actionable information for non‑technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in lodging, travel, e‑commerce, or other large‑scale marketplace domains

  • Experience with connectivity or integration platforms, including high‑volume partner APIs, data synchronization, and near‑real‑time distributed systems

  • Experience using AI‑ or machine‑learning‑driven tools (for example, anomaly detection, forecasting, decision‑support dashboards) to monitor system health, optimize performance, or improve developer and operational efficiency

  • Experience utilizing Agentic AI or similar orchestration approaches to improve, operationalize, or automate repetitive engineering and operational processes

  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain high‑performing teams through servant leadership, psychological safety, and a continuous learning mindset

  • Experience collaborating across global, distributed teams and time zones
