The Senior Mechanical Engineer leads mechanical design for complex cleanroom, fab, and advanced technology manufacturing facilities, shaping systems that support mission-critical operations, uptime, and safety. This role develops and coordinates HVAC and mechanical solutions from concept through construction and startup, including air handling units, VAV systems, chillers, boilers, exhaust ventilation, pump hydraulics, and wastewater discharge equipment. The engineer works closely with project managers, discipline leads, clients, contractors, and vendors to define scope, resolve technical issues, manage design changes, and support quality reviews. Using AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks for modeling and clash detection, this role ensures technically sound, code-compliant, and constructible solutions while providing mentorship and technical leadership across project teams.

Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical design efforts for cleanroom, fab, and advanced technology projects from early planning and basis of design development through construction administration and startup support.
  • Develop and review HVAC and mechanical system designs, including air handling units, HVAC ducting, exhaust, motor control, VAV systems, chillers, boilers, exhaust ventilation, pump hydraulics, wastewater discharge equipment and possibly other mechanical building systems.
  • Perform and review design calculations, equipment sizing, pressure drop analyses, load calculations, and system coordination to support reliable, energy-conscious, and code-compliant solutions.
  • Prepare and coordinate construction documents, specifications, and deliverables using AutoCAD and Revit, ensuring completeness, consistency, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Participate in BIM coordination and model-based clash detection in Navisworks, resolving conflicts with architectural, structural, electrical, process, and utility systems.
  • Interface directly with clients, contractors, vendors, and internal project teams to define scope, evaluate options, answer technical questions, and support decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead technical discussions during design reviews, client meetings, and coordination sessions, translating operational and safety requirements into practical mechanical solutions.
  • Review submittals, RFIs, change requests, and field conditions to evaluate impacts, recommend resolutions, and maintain design intent during construction.
  • Support site walks, field observations, punch list development, and startup activities to verify installation quality, system readiness, and operational performance.
  • Apply QA/QC practices to mechanical deliverables, identifying design risks, constructability concerns, code issues, and coordination gaps before issuance.
  • Manage design changes and technical risk through organized communication, documentation, and timely coordination with project leadership and other disciplines.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing technical guidance, reviewing work products, and promoting knowledge-sharing across the mechanical discipline and project teams.
  • Support stamping and responsible charge activities for mechanical design packages in accordance with professional licensure requirements and company standards.
  • Contribute to process improvement, lessons learned, and best practices that strengthen quality, efficiency, and consistency across projects.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution, which qualifies for licensure in the state of practice.
  • Active Professional Engineering (PE) license or evidence of ability to obtain by reciprocity within six months of hire; responsible charge of mechanical design and stamping authority required.
  • Mechanical design experience in semiconductor, cleanroom, fab, or advanced technology manufacturing facilities, or other technically-related market(s).
  • Demonstrated expertise in mechanical systems such as: HVAC systems design including air handling units, VAV systems, chillers, boilers, pump hydraulics, exhaust ventilation, and wastewater discharge equipment.
  • Proven proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit for mechanical design and BIM coordination, including use of Navisworks for clash detection and coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform technical calculations, interpret design criteria, and develop coordinated engineering solutions for complex facilities.
  • Experience interfacing with clients and contractors to define scope, lead technical discussions, and support design execution through construction.
  • Strong knowledge of QA/QC practices, constructability review, and construction administration processes including submittals, RFIs, and field coordination.
  • Proven leadership, mentoring, and communication skills with the ability to guide junior staff and collaborate across multiple disciplines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and professionally.
  • Salary Range: $130,000 - $180,000/year depending on location, education, depth of relevant experience. Opportunity for ample rewards, leadership incentive/bonus program, and ownership investment opportunities.
