We are seeking a strategic and execution-oriented Senior Network Engineer to drive the evolution and reliability of our global network infrastructure. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring high availability, optimal performance, and security across NMI's production and office networks. You will contribute to the design and operation of next-generation infrastructure while maintaining legacy systems and improving network observability.
This is a primarily remote position (U.S. Eastern or Central time zones preferred), with periodic travel (1–4 times per year) to company colocation facilities, fully covered by the company. If based near a company office, occasional in-office collaboration is encouraged.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Possesses extensive experience in network architecture across WANs, LANs, and data centers
  • Thrives in both legacy and modern network environments, finding innovative ways to enhance resiliency and performance
  • Automates routine tasks and embeds monitoring, alerting, and metrics to ensure visibility and availability
  • Is adept in hybrid infrastructures, with both on-prem and cloud experience
  • Communicates effectively and works collaboratively with global, distributed teams

Champions operational excellence and believes in building observable, fault-tolerant networks
Key responsibilities: 

Network Architecture & Maintenance:

  • Oversee and maintain all network devices, ensuring continuous operation and optimal performance
  • Design and enhance network architecture to support evolving business needs
  • Manage the full lifecycle of network hardware, from procurement to decommissioning
  • Develop and refine routing policies and procedures to optimize network performance

Security & Reliability:

  • Review firewall and switch configurations for security and performance compliance
  • Implement and maintain firewalls with HA/Clustering in regulated environments (e.g., PCI-DSS, HIPAA)
  • Perform root cause analyses and implement solutions to improve resilience and prevent recurrence

Monitoring & Incident Response:

  • Continuously test, monitor, and document network performance
  • Participate in the on-call rotation for timely incident response
  • Contribute to proactive network improvements using observability data

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • 5+ years of experience managing and configuring network devices (Juniper, Fortinet) in high-availability environments
  • 3+ years of VPN administration experience supporting 500+ users
  • 3+ years of experience with network security and regulatory compliance (e.g., PCI-DSS, HIPAA)
  • Expertise with BGP and OSPF routing protocols across multi-site WANs
  • Strong technical documentation and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

  • Experience with F5 LTM, Palo Alto GlobalProtect, and advanced firewall/WAF solutions (e.g., Cloudflare, Akamai)
  • JNCIS certification or higher
  • Experience designing and managing cloud networks (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash/ZSH) for automation
  • Hands-on experience administering IPS devices and working in regulated, complex environments
  • Proven ability to manage vendor relationships and third-party service provider
