Responsibilities

Peraton is looking for a Platform Engineer/Application Support Lead to drive application support and enablement across a large AWS enterprise ecosystem. This person will serve as the senior technical bridge between the platform organization and application teams. They will own production support for applications running on OpenShift (ROSA) and Amazon EKS across AWS Commercial and GovCloud, driving effective incident response, root-cause analysis, and permanent remediation. This person will build self-service tools using reusable Terraform modules and GitLab pipeline templates to help application teams onboard and deploy faster. They will work closely with development, platform engineering, security, SRE, and product teams to ensure applications are reliable, secure, and delivered using consistent processes.

Location: Remote

Shift Schedule: 8am – 5pm Eastern Standard Time (EST)

What you will do:

Application Support and Incident Response

  • Serve as senior technical lead for production application support, driving detection, triage, mitigation, restoration, and executive-level communication during high-impact events.
  • Own emerging customer issues end to end, ensuring technical solutions are actioned, assigned with timelines, and driven to resolution.
  • Conduct blameless RCA and facilitate multi-stakeholder root-cause sessions, producing a roadmap for future changes and leading implementation.
  • Identify recurring application and platform issues and eliminate them through engineering rather than repeated manual response.

App Enablement and Developer Self-Service

  • Build reusable Terraform modules and GitLab project and pipeline templates that let application teams provision namespaces, environments, and supporting AWS resources without filing a platform ticket.
  • Operate the self-service onboarding workflow covering repository creation, CI/CD wiring, quota and RBAC assignment, and security-gate enrollment.
  • Publish golden-path pipeline templates and paved-road patterns in GitLab so security scanning, compliance gates, and observability hooks are inherited automatically.
  • Maintain onboarding documentation and module catalogs, tracking onboarding lead time and self-service adoption to remove friction points raised by application teams.

Platform Engineering on AWS

  • Operate containerized workloads on OpenShift (ROSA) and Amazon EKS across AWS Commercial and AWS GovCloud, including Spring Boot and other microservice deployments.
  • Engineer AWS environments (EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, EBS, ELB/ALB/NLB, Route 53, CloudWatch, OpenSearch) with least-privilege IAM as a baseline.
  • Automate infrastructure with Terraform for AWS and cluster configuration, and with Ansible / Ansible Tower for configuration management and node hardening.

CI/CD, Observability, and Security

  • Operate GitLab CI/CD pipelines with reusable templates, feature flags, environment gating, and DORA metrics, and support migration of legacy Jenkins pipelines to GitLab.
  • Integrate SAST, DAST, SCA, secrets, and IaC scanning as required pipeline stages, with policy-driven gates that block insecure builds from promotion.
  • Operate observability across Datadog, Dynatrace, Splunk, OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch, and OpenSearch, and instrument applications so every service ships with actionable alerts and a usable dashboard.
  • Enforce STIG, CIS, and organizational compliance across applications and pipelines, and support Aqua Security for image scanning, admission control, and runtime protection.
  • Support vulnerability management, ATO artifacts, audits, and continuous compliance reporting for FedRAMP and DoD-accredited boundaries.

Leadership and Delivery

  • Set engineering standards, review architecture, mentor engineers, and represent application support in cross-functional planning and change advisory forums.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain the required Public Trust level clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience, or High School Diploma or equivalent and 12 years of experience.
  • 8+ years of hands-on AWS experience supporting platform engineering, application operations, networking, and security across AWS Commercial and GovCloud.
  • Strong experience with EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, EBS, ELB/ALB/NLB, Route 53, CloudWatch, OpenSearch, etc.
  • Observability experience with Datadog, Dynatrace, Splunk, OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch, and/or OpenSearch.
  • Experience with Terraform and Ansible/Ansible Tower for infrastructure-as-code (IAC) and configuration management
  • Hands-on experience leading production application support, including incident command, RCA facilitation, and driving corrective actions to closure.
  • Experience building self-service developer onboarding or platform-as-a-product capabilities using Terraform and GitLab.
  • Real-world experience establishing and maturing CI/CD toward progressive delivery.
  • Proven track record in senior technical or advisory roles, driving strategic change and digital adoption across business units.
  • Leadership presence and communication skills to work with customers at all levels and manage communication during critical incidents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional.
  • AWS Certified Security - Specialty.
  • Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration.
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD).
  • HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate.
  • Experience obtaining or maintaining an ATO in a FedRAMP High environment.
