As a Senior Product Engineer at Hive, you'll develop AI-powered marketing features, prototype and scale solutions, and design user-friendly interfaces. Collaborate across the stack using React and Python to enhance marketing automation with AI tools.
The summary above was generated by AI

At Hive, we’re all about creating moments that matter and helping event marketers connect with their biggest fans. Our platform powers marketing for 1,500+ iconic events, festivals, venues, and promoters across North America. We help them grow their customer base and sell out shows using intelligent, automated, and personalized digital marketing tools.

Hive integrates with 25+ platforms (like Ticketmaster and Shopify) to provide rich customer data in real-time, enabling event marketers to engage their audiences with precision and impact.

With our new Agentic AI Pod, we're pioneering the next generation of marketing platform interactions, where AI agents can help marketers accomplish complex tasks through natural conversation and intelligent automation.

The Opportunity:

Our Agentic AI Pod owns the code that lets our customers interact with Hive in new ways - via intelligent marketing and orchestration agents that understand natural language and take meaningful actions on our clients’ behalf. We’re constantly prototyping and learning about the frontier of agentic AI as we figure out how best to build and architect it in our context, creating new ways for clients to get real work done to their standards.

At Hive, we process high-volume user and transactional data from 20+ integrations on our clients’ behalf - data that’s not available at scale to other products or agents. Further, we send over 350 million messages each month to consumers via marketing channels and tools purpose-built for our clients (event marketers). Now we are building AI systems that act on this data and these tools through conversational interfaces and autonomous agents. This role is about taking ideas and turning them into user-facing features and workflows that marketers actually trust and use to drive measurable outcomes.

We want someone who is excited about building AI-powered products and strong on frontend and full stack development. You do not need to be an AI expert, but you should have played with LLM tools, be curious about the space, and want to grow your skills while building experiences that support thousands of users.

What you’ll get up to:

  • Prototype new AI features: Build and ship experimental conversational interfaces that marketers can use to get real work done, refining them quickly based on user feedback

  • Build production-ready features: Take prototypes from concept to reliable production systems that scale to thousands of users

  • Design and ship new interaction modes: Explore how users can work with AI in Hive, from natural language commands to guided conversations, and implement both the frontend components and supporting APIs

  • Create AI-powered workflows: Build end-to-end features where AI agents help execute multi-step marketing tasks, from conversation state management to React UI components and real-time user feedback

  • Collaborate on architecture: Contribute to technical planning for how AI experiences integrate with Hive’s platform, while keeping a focus on user-facing product impact

  • Work across the stack: Spend most of your time on React and Typescript, with some backend work in Python/Django to build APIs and connect to AI systems

Past Projects (traditional engineering):

Here's a look at the scale we operate at, which our AI systems must integrate with:

  • Built a state-based pipeline to send 10MM+ personalized emails and SMS every day

  • Built a simple UI that queries billions of data points across different databases and combines results in seconds

  • Re-built background task processing using Kubernetes and Docker to handle billions of daily jobs with auto-scaling

  • Built a JavaScript SDK handling web-scale traffic for high-traffic ecommerce and ticketing websites

What you might work on:

  • Conversational marketing agent - AI agents that understand natural language requests like "Create an email campaign for fans who attended similar shows" and execute the full workflow.

  • Intelligent customer segmentation - AI that analyzes customer data and suggests/creates targeted segments based on conversational input from marketers.

  • Agentic analytics assistant - AI that can answer complex questions about campaign performance and automatically generate insights and recommendations.

  • Smart workflow automation - AI agents that can orchestrate multi-step marketing workflows based on high-level user goals.

Who you are:

  • 3+ years building modern web applications with strong experience in React and Typescript, and comfort working with Python/Django on the backend

  • Hands-on experience building polished user-facing features, with an eye for detail and usability

  • Curiosity about AI systems and excitement to experiment with LLM tools and apply them to real products

  • Product sense: you can take a vague problem and turn it into a clear, intuitive feature that helps users accomplish their goals

  • Experience working closely with Product and Design to build features, and a willingness to explore new patterns for user interaction

  • Ability to clearly explain your technical decisions, tradeoffs, and approaches to others

  • Comfort working in a fast-moving environment where best practices are still being defined and part of your job is helping shape them

  • Strong async communication and collaboration skills in a remote team

Bonus points:

  • You’ve shipped features that use AI in production, even if small in scope

  • You’ve experimented with LLM frameworks like LangChain, LangGraph, or semantic kernel

  • You’ve worked with vector databases (Qdrant, Pinecone, Weaviate) or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) patterns

  • You have experience in marketing tech or SaaS and understand how marketers think about campaigns and workflows

Technologies we use & teach

  • Frontend: React, Typescript (your main tools)

  • Backend: Python, Django (for building APIs and connecting to AI systems)

  • Databases: Redis, MySQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Clickhouse

  • Infra: AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform

  • AI: LangGraph and other emerging frameworks

  • Experience with these is a plus, but we know smart people are quick learners!

Compensation/Benefits Package

  • Meaningful salary and equity: you're rewarded based on impact.

    • The compensation range for this role is $123,600 to $187,900 CAD per year, depending on qualifications and experience. This compensation range takes into account a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to job-related skills, experience and relevant training, and business and organizational needs. New team members typically start between $123,600 - $155,000, based on experience and alignment with the expectations outlined in this posting. This range reflects not just where you begin, but the growth we expect and invest in as you grow at Hive.

  • Work fully remote from the comfort of your home. You must be based in Canada and have legal Canadian work authorization for this role.

  • Flexible work hours: minimal meetings and no 9-5

  • Health & Dental coverage with Parental Leave top-ups in addition to EI benefits

  • Unlimited vacation/PTO: so you can be happy and healthy!
