About Hauler Hero

Hauler Hero builds software for waste and recycling haulers: the hard working professionals who pick up your trash, recycling, and roll-off dumpsters rain or shine. It's essential work that keeps communities clean, and the people who do it deserve great tools. Our platform powers their entire business: routing, dispatch, billing, CRM, and mobile apps for drivers. We serve small family-owned haulers to enterprise municipal contracts running 100+ trucks.

Waste management is a $100B+ industry running on spreadsheets and outdated software. We're one of the few modern platforms gaining real traction, and there's a lot of ground to cover.

This is a high-impact, high-autonomy role. We've built a strong R&D team that ships with ownership and craft. You'll work as a partner to engineering and design leadership, debating tradeoffs, shaping direction, shipping together. We want someone who can hold their own alongside senior engineers and designers, bring real perspective to product decisions, and shape how we build as the company scales.

The ideal candidate has built and shipped in environments where they had to figure it out. Maybe you were an early PM hire scaling through Series A, or you led a major product rebuild. You're the type who thinks about adoption and retention as much as features, uses data and customer research to make hard calls, and understands that shipping is just the starting line.

You care about craft. You want to work closely with design leadership on product vision, not just hand off specs. You're fluent with AI tools and use them throughout your process. And you know how to drive alignment across engineering, design, leadership, and customers, translating between contexts, navigating competing priorities, and getting the right people to the right decisions.

We're open to an early Senior PM or a mid-level PM ready to step up. This isn't about years on a resume. Show us what you've built and how you think.

The Role

This is our first PM hire. You'll own major product areas end-to-end. Not just executing tickets, but deciding what we build and why. You'll have real authority over your domains, from discovery through launch and beyond.

You'll work directly with founders, engineering leads, and R&D leadership to shape product direction. Your judgment will influence roadmap priorities, and your solutions need to work for small family haulers and 100-truck enterprise operations alike.

This is a senior IC role with significant autonomy. You're not managing people day-to-day, but you are leading initiatives, influencing strategy, and building the foundation for a product org that scales. Expect to travel for customer visits once or twice a year, plus R&D sprints and company off-sites.

How This Role Functions

You're joining a team that's already built solid infrastructure: PRD templates, roadmap systems, cross-functional workflows. That means you can focus on the work that matters: understanding customers deeply, making smart product bets, and shipping solutions that move the needle.

What ownership looks like here:

  • Define product direction for your areas, not just document requirements handed to you

  • Make prioritization calls with real tradeoffs. You'll need to defend them

  • Run discovery that shapes what we build, not just validates predetermined solutions

  • Partner with design and engineering as equals. Debate, iterate, ship together

  • Own outcomes, not just outputs: adoption, retention, customer impact

  • Identify what's broken in our processes and fix it

The profile we're looking for:

  • Takes ownership without waiting for permission

  • Thinks beyond the feature to the full customer journey

  • Challenges assumptions (including ours) with data and customer insight

  • Balances speed with craft. Ships fast but cares about quality

Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end product development from discovery through launch and iteration

  • Run beta programs: recruit customers, gather feedback, iterate before wide release

  • Write detailed PRDs, specs, and acceptance criteria

  • Run customer discovery: interviews, site visits, usability tests

  • Manage backlog: well-scoped, prioritized, ready for development

  • Collaborate with engineering and design throughout the product lifecycle

  • Coordinate with support, success, marketing, and sales on releases

  • Own internal product communication: roadmap progress, releases, upcoming changes

  • Become a waste industry expert: hauler operations, routing, billing, field workflows

  • Build customer relationships and represent their voice internally

  • Use analytics to monitor adoption, identify friction, drive improvements

  • Ship, iterate, build tight feedback loops

  • Craft intuitive solutions that scale from small operators to enterprise

  • Contribute customer insights, competitive intelligence, and strategic perspective to roadmap planning

  • Leverage AI throughout the product process

  • Contribute to evolving our processes, tools, and ways of working

Qualifications
  • 5+ years B2B SaaS product management, track record shipping complex software

  • Ability to own a product area end-to-end from discovery to release

  • Technical fluency: you don't need to write code, but you can talk through APIs, data models, and system architecture with engineering and ask the right questions

  • Experience writing PRDs that engineering can execute and stakeholders can understand

  • Proven customer discovery skills, translating insights to requirements

  • Product analytics experience: measuring adoption, identifying friction

  • Track record thinking about full customer lifecycle, not just shipping

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Experience working with engineering leads on scoping and delivery

  • Skilled at prioritization and tradeoffs

  • Comfortable with ambiguity

  • Seasoned in Agile and Lean UX environments

  • Track record working closely with design teams on UX

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Nice to Have
  • Field service, logistics, or route optimization software experience

  • Waste management, recycling, or environmental services background

  • Payment systems or finance experience

  • Mobile apps for field workers

  • Product-led growth or experimentation background

  • Startup or early-stage experience

Skills & Attributes
  • Strong ownership: sees things through to completion

  • Balances execution with strategic thinking

  • Clear, concise communicator

  • Collaborative and low-ego

  • Customer-focused with genuine curiosity

  • Thinks about full customer journey

  • Organized and detail-oriented

  • Comfortable with direct feedback, iterates quickly

  • Adaptable in fast-paced, lean environments

  • Technical enough for productive engineering conversations

  • Well-versed in AI tools (Claude, GPT, Cursor)

  • Experimentation and scientific mindset

  • Puts team success over personal credit

What We Offer
  • R&D culture: A team that cares about the product as a whole. Engineers weigh in on UX, designers think about technical tradeoffs, and everyone's focused on outcomes.

  • Own significant product areas with real impact on haulers' livelihoods and communities

  • Collaborative team that values quality and craftsmanship

  • Direct customer access and feedback

  • Competitive salary and benefits

  • Career growth into product leadership as we scale

  • Remote-first: work from anywhere with a distributed U.S. team

  • Time off: flexible PTO and paid holidays

  • Team connection: virtual events, async collaboration, occasional in-person offsites
