The Senior Project Manager is a senior-level project leader responsible for the successful delivery of the company’s largest, most complex, and highest-value electrical construction projects or portfolios. This role operates with full accountability for project performance, including financial outcomes, contract execution, and client satisfaction, while driving strategic execution across multiple stakeholders and project teams.

Operating within the Project Team under the Operations function, the Senior Project Manager partners closely with Branch Managers, Project Executives, and field leadership to develop and execute project strategies that ensure operational excellence, margin performance, and client retention. This role serves as a primary point of contact for executive-level client relationships and plays a critical role in maintaining and expanding key accounts.

In addition to project delivery, the Senior Project Manager provides mentorship and guidance to Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers, contributing to the development of project management capabilities across the organization. The role requires a high level of independent judgment, leadership, and business acumen, with the ability to manage complex project demands while influencing broader operational and business outcomes.

The Senior Project Manager is a seasoned project management professional with a proven track record of delivering large-scale electrical construction, mission critical, or complex service projects, and the ability to lead high-performing teams while driving consistent results in safety, quality, financial performance, and client experience.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

Tasks may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead execution of large, complex projects or multiple concurrent projects/programs, ensuring alignment with contract requirements, schedules, and financial objectives
  • Own and manage project or portfolio P&L performance, including budget development, forecasting, margin optimization, and financial risk management
  • Develop and implement project and program-level execution strategies, including sequencing, logistics, staffing, and resource planning across multiple workstreams
  • Serve as the primary executive-level point of contact for clients, general contractors, and key stakeholders; build and maintain long-term client relationships
  • Lead contract strategy and administration, including negotiation, risk evaluation, and resolution of complex change orders, claims, and disputes
  • Drive financial performance and cost control strategies, including productivity improvement, cost recovery, and margin protection initiatives
  • Oversee procurement strategy for major equipment, subcontractors, and vendors, including high-value and long-lead items
  • Provide leadership and direction to Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, and project teams; mentor and develop talent to strengthen organizational capability
  • Lead coordination across field leadership, engineering, BIM, prefabrication, service, and support functions to ensure integrated project execution
  • Identify and proactively manage enterprise-level risks, including operational, financial, contractual, and client-related risks
  • Lead executive-level reporting on project and portfolio performance, including status, financials, risks, and strategic considerations
  • Support business development efforts by identifying growth opportunities, participating in pursuits, and contributing to client retention and expansion strategies
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards across all projects and reinforce company expectations and best practices
  • Oversee final project closeout, commissioning, and turnover processes to ensure successful delivery and client satisfaction

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of electrical construction, service operations, and project execution methodologies across multiple project types
  • Ability to adapt project management approach to different delivery models (lump sum, service work, negotiated work, mission critical environments)
  • Strong financial acumen with ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and project profitability
  • Advanced understanding of contract administration, risk allocation, and change management
  • Ability to independently interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents
  • Strong leadership and coordination skills across field teams, service teams, and subcontractors
  • Effective client management and communication skills across varied project environments
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, workstreams, or service programs simultaneously
  • Strategic problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
  • Proficiency in project management platforms, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong understanding of construction safety standards (OSHA) and operational compliance

Requirements

Experience Requirements:

  • 8–12+ years of progressive experience in electrical construction, service operations, or related project-based environments
  • Proven experience independently leading large-scale, high-value projects or multiple concurrent projects/programs from initiation through closeout
  • Demonstrated accountability for project or portfolio financial performance, including budget development, forecasting, cost control, and margin optimization
  • Experience managing projects of significant complexity, including multi-phase work, accelerated schedules, or highly coordinated environments (e.g., mission critical, industrial, or large commercial projects)
  • Proven ability to lead contract strategy and administration, including negotiation, change order management, and resolution of complex project issues, claims, or disputes
  • Demonstrated success managing executive-level client relationships, including communication, issue resolution, and long-term account development
  • Experience leading and coordinating cross-functional teams, including field operations, subcontractors, vendors, engineering, BIM, prefabrication, and service teams
  • Experience developing and executing procurement and resource strategies for major equipment, subcontractors, and long-lead items
  • Demonstrated ability to drive project performance, including improving labor productivity, managing risk, and implementing corrective actions to protect schedule and margin
  • Experience identifying and mitigating project and business risks, including financial, operational, and contractual exposures
  • Proven track record of mentoring and developing Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers, supporting team capability and succession planning
  • Experience supporting business development efforts, including client retention, repeat work, and participation in project pursuits preferred

 Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field required; advanced degree (e.g., MBA or Master’s in Engineering/Construction Management) preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and extensive, relevant electrical construction experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Ongoing professional development in leadership, project management, or business/financial disciplines is expected

Certifications/Licenses:

  • OSHA 30 Certification required (or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe)
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required for travel to job sites and client locations
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification strongly preferred; demonstrated progression toward PMP acceptable
  • Advanced safety training or certifications (e.g., NFPA 70E, site-specific safety programs) preferred, particularly for mission critical or energized environments
  • Industry-relevant certifications or training related to electrical construction, project delivery, or leadership development preferred
