Role Overview

Under supervision, this role is responsible for moderately complex accounting activities relating to the maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and the resultant managerial reports and financial statements for Reinsurance Accounting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare general ledger entries and assist in the reconciliation of the sub-ledger to the general ledger.
  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare various reports for management, including but not limited to those regarding facultative, treaty, and excess of loss coverage for reinsurance programs.
  • Reconcile re-insurer balances to the general ledger and sub ledgers.
  • Interpret and input reinsurance agreements into the financial system for use by Underwriting, Claims, and Accounting departments.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual statutory filings on both a consolidated and company basis.
  • Prepare internal summaries of assumed and ceded business. Compile data for management related to commutations and liquidations.
  • Assist in management review of outgoing Letters of Credit and invoices from banks for related fees.
  • Respond to inquiries from reinsurers/brokers and assist with rating agency responses.
  • Review forms and reports prepared by other team members for accuracy and completeness.
What You Bring

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, a related field, or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Work towards Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.

Experience

  • Two years of relevant and progressive professional experience in Accounting and/or Finance.

Key Competencies

  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Advanced organizational and analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments related to the applicable area of the business.
  • Intermediate proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Ability to follow work plans, established timelines, and predefined goals; meet commitments on deadlines; communicate activities, results, and observations; identify process improvements; and comply with corporate policies and procedures.
