The Senior Safety Manager will provide an oversight of the development, implementation, and maintenance of safety policies and procedures to protect employees, customers, and stakeholders from potential hazards. The Senior Safety Manager will assess risks, conduct safety training, and ensure compliance with the applicable safety standards and best practices.

Role and Responsibilities

Safety Leadership & Management:

  • Manage the implementation of Goodwill’s safety and health programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and best practices.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support a team of other safety professionals.
  • Develop and enforce safety policies, standards, and procedures across all operations and departments.
  • Monitor safety performance metrics and provide reports to senior leadership on safety trends, incidents, and key performance indicators.

Compliance & Regulatory Oversight:

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and other local, state, and federal safety standards.
  • Stay current on relevant regulations.
  • Lead internal safety audits, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.

Risk Assessment & Mitigation:

  • Conduct regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and job safety analyses to identify potential hazards.
  • Work with management to develop and implement strategies to eliminate or reduce identified risks.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Emergency response, emergency management and business continuity planning.

Training & Development:

  • Oversee the development and implementation of safety training programs for all levels of the organization.
  • Create safety awareness campaigns to engage employees and promote a culture of safety.

Incident Investigation & Reporting:

  • Lead investigations into workplace accidents and near misses, ensuring all incidents are documented, reported, and resolved.
  • Prepare reports on safety incidents and present findings to management with recommendations for improvements.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement safety best practices and innovations.
  • Drive initiatives to improve safety performance, reduce accidents, and enhance overall employee well-being.
  • Promote continuous improvement through the use of safety metrics.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has supervisory responsibilities over Safety & Compliance Manager, Safety & Security Manager and Safety Manager.  


Required Skills & Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or related field (preferred) or a combination of relevant training and experience.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a safety role, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
  • Strong understanding of occupational safety program implementation, hazard analysis, and emergency response procedures.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong presentation and training skills for adult learners.
  • Experience with safety software and systems (e.g., incident reporting, audit tools, etc.)
  • Valid driver license with reliable transportation to travel across various worksites.

Physical Requirements

  • The position will require regular travel to various work sites and may require additional hours beyond typical work hours.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of environments, including office, industrial, or field settings.
  • The role may require physical activity related to safety inspections or audits.
  • Prepare and deliver analytical reports to senior leadership, including suggestions for safety improvements and tracking of key safety metrics.
  • Promote a culture of safety within the organization, encouraging employees to identify safety concerns.
