About Voltus

Voltus is a leading company for Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). Our mission is to be the platform that fulfills the promise of the energy transition. The Voltus platform connects any DER to any energy market across the US and Canada, providing flexibility, reliability, and resilience to the grid while generating revenue for our partners.
We hire teammates who are bright, gritty, and good and who have a genuine passion for delivering a cleaner energy future and for working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. We are a remote and virtual company, distributed primarily across the US and Canada. Candidates must be authorized to work in the US or Canada without requiring sponsorship.

The Role

Voltus is hiring a Senior Engineer for our edge technology team. This team is preparing an accelerated deployment of devices. We are looking for an experienced software engineer to help develop our cloud architecture and IoT fleet management solutions as well as improve and advance our device firmware. A successful candidate will not only possess the required experience and technical skills, but will also demonstrate awareness, empathy, intentionality, curiosity and a desire to be part of an open, collaborative, and psychologically-safe engineering culture.

  • Uptime and quality for our fleet of devices

  • Device hardware and firmware development

  • Remote software updates

  • Cloud architecture to receive data from and manage thousands of devices

  • Development and maintenance of fleet management solutions

  • Engaging with customers, field support teams, and our manufacturing and assembly team to seek opportunities for improvement

Technologies We Use

We build scalable software using Python, Postgres, Go, FastAPI, Temporal, Delta Lake, Clickhouse, Typescript, and React, running our services using Docker and the HashiCorp stack on AWS. We do not expect candidates to have a background in every tool listed here; instead, we place a high value on strong foundational programming skills and a genuine eagerness to learn and grow. Successful candidates can demonstrate significant depth in some of core technologies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as a code-contributing engineer

  • Experience building production systems in Python, Go, or a similar high level language

  • Experience using AWS and Postgres or similar RDBMS

  • Knowledge of and proven skills with Linux-based systems

  • Basic knowledge of and interest in electronics and electrical systems such as Raspberry Pi or Arduino-style technologies

  • A strong collaborator who understands what it means to be a force multiplier

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • A genuine passion for our mission to create a cleaner, more resilient energy future.

  • Authorization to work in the US or Canada without sponsorship

Contributions a successful candidate will make:

  • The Voltlet Team serves a diverse set of stakeholders. A successful candidate will be expected to work cross functionally with customers, internal stakeholders, and the development team

  • Desire to learn about the energy industry and complex distributed systems

  • Willingness to add to our knowledge and skills with agile methodologies

  • Awareness, empathy, intentionality, curiosity

  • Desire to be part of an open, collaborative, and psychologically-safe engineering culture

Please note that at this time, we do not sponsor visas or transfers for new hires. Voltus teammates need to be authorized to work from their home location (in the US or Canada, unless otherwise indicated on the role description).

Additionally, while Voltus is an all-remote workplace, we have limitations on where employees are able to work for regulatory and security reasons. We expect that Voltans are working primarily from their home country. Working while traveling to other countries must be approved as per our Global Remote Travel Policy.

At Voltus, we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer because we recognize that a diverse organization begins with a diverse candidate pool.
