We're passionate about turning friction into triple win experiences for residents, investors, and managers. That way renting can be easy and rewarding for everyone.

And now you can join us. Apply today to join 275+ passionate, creative people who strive to make a difference each day so residents, property managers, and investors all win.

About the Role

Second Nature is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help design, build, and scale high-quality software solutions that make a real difference for property managers and their residents. In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, contribute to architectural decisions, and help set the technical bar for the team around you. You'll own meaningful pieces of the product end-to-end, mentor less experienced engineers, and bring both craft and curiosity to everything you build.

You'll be joining a newly formed team focused on building a next-generation experience for the customers. This is a high-impact opportunity to help shape a product area from the ground up - working closely with product and engineering leadership to define what best in class looks like.

We're building in an era where AI is changing what's possible for engineering teams, and we want engineers who are running toward that. You should be actively using AI-assisted and agentic coding tools today - with a point of view on how they make you faster, sharper, and more effective. If you're genuinely excited about where AI is taking software development, you'll fit right in.

Key Outcomes

  • Reliable, well-crafted features shipped end-to-end with ownership - from technical design through testing, deployment, and monitoring.

  • A measurable lift in code quality and engineering standards across the team, through thoughtful code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing.

  • Complex technical problems diagnosed and resolved quickly, reducing toil and improving the experience for users and teammates alike.

  • Junior and mid-level engineers growing faster because of your mentorship and the example you set.

  • A clear, positive contribution to how the team builds - improving processes, catching problems early, and helping the team move with confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-quality software across the full stack.

  • Write clean, well-tested code and take ownership of features from design through production.

  • Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to technical decision-making across the team.

  • Conduct thorough code reviews and uphold engineering best practices and standards.

  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, proactively improving system performance and reliability.

  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to translate business requirements into excellent technical solutions.

  • Mentor junior engineers through pairing, code review, and knowledge sharing.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams and API specifications.

  • Participate actively in agile ceremonies - sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and help bring new ideas into the team's workflow.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience with a strong background in software design and architecture.

  • Experience with TypeScript, React and Next.js.

  • Experience with NestJS and PostgreSQL.

  • Solid understanding of cloud-native architectures with Kubernetes and Terraform.

  • Strong grasp of software architecture patterns - microservices, distributed systems, hexagonal architecture, domain-driven design, and similar.

  • Experience working in cross-functional agile teams and collaborating closely with product and design.

  • Strong communication skills - you can explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Active, hands-on use of AI coding tools (we use Claude Code) as part of your daily development workflow.

  • Experience with or strong curiosity about agentic coding workflows - using AI agents to automate development tasks, generate and review code, or accelerate system design.

  • Genuine enthusiasm for the future of AI in software engineering and a desire to be at the forefront of how it reshapes the craft.

  • BONUS: Experience in PropTech, real estate tech, or B2B2C SaaS platforms.

We get it. Requirements can sometimes hold people back from applying to a job, but don't let that be the case here. If you believe you have the skills it takes to elevate this role, team, and company, we encourage you to apply for this role.

Our Core Values

  • Pirate Ship; not a cruise ship. Bias towards action.

  • Massive Growth takes massive growth. We embrace challenges to increase our impact.

  • Grow the Pie. We focus on results so our customers & their customers win. Triple Win!

  • Purple Heart. We put the team before ourselves.

  • Extreme Ownership. See something? Say something; right the ship to get us back on course.

  • Be a moment maker. We aim to shatter the status quo.
