About the Role at RobCo

RobCo is building the category of Autonomous Industrial Robotics and we're doing it fast. We believe that automating the ordinary frees humans to do the extraordinary, and we're building the end-to-end robotics infrastructure to make that possible - hardware, software, and AI in one stack that just works.

At RobCo, we automate the ordinary, so humans can do the extraordinary. To achieve this, we are looking for an ambitious Senior Solution Development Engineer to help us establish RobCo as leading provider of automation solutions.

In this key role, you act as the critical technical bridge turning visionary customer requirements into robust, field-ready robotic system architectures across our US deployments. You will drive simulation, prototyping, and detailed multi-disciplinary engineering design to eliminate ambiguity and risk early in the development lifecycle. By establishing data-driven design standards and seamless handoffs for execution, you directly enable the rapid scaling of our autonomous industrial solutions.

Your Responsibilities

  • Translate customer requirements provided by Sales Engineering into technically feasible, simulation-validated solution concepts and robust system architectures.

  • Perform simulation, modeling, prototyping, and engineering analysis to rigorously validate design decisions before they transition to execution.

  • Develop detailed mechanical, electrical, controls, and software designs tailored for complex robotic system solutions.

  • Evaluate design alternatives and technical tradeoffs to make data-driven, scalable engineering recommendations.

  • Define clear system requirements, interfaces, assumptions, constraints, and acceptance criteria to eliminate technical ambiguity downstream.

  • Identify and mitigate technical and execution risks early in the design cycle by partnering with Solution Execution teams to incorporate manufacturing, deployment, and commissioning considerations.

  • Lead structured design reviews to surface potential design gaps early and ensure high standards of engineering quality.

  • Produce comprehensive Solution Development Packages—including approved concepts, simulation results, risk assessments, interface definitions, and BOMs—as the baseline for execution.

  • Incorporate field feedback, deployment learnings, and operational issues into future engineering standards and design iterations.

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Completed vocational training or a degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, or comparable experience.

  • Several years of experience (5+ years) in robotic system design, simulation, and multi-disciplinary solution engineering.

  • Proven track record in mechanical, electrical, or controls design, alongside system simulation and risk mitigation frameworks.

  • Strong ability to evaluate complex technical tradeoffs and communicate risks clearly to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Culture-aligned mindset (e.g., "Strong ownership mindset", "Growth mindset", "Pragmatic working style", and "Structured problem-solving approach").

  • Very good English skills (German is a plus).

Why join RobCo?

  • Develop modular, software-defined robotics solutions with us that set new standards in automation.

  • Help us build robots equipped with state-of-the-art AI that perceive their environment, analyze data, and make intelligent decisions in real time.

  • As part of a very dynamic and fast-growing scale-up, you will take on responsibility from day one, drive your own projects, and see the direct impact of your work.

  • Flat hierarchies, open communication, and regular 360° feedback enable fast decisions and support your professional and personal development.

  • Competitive compensation and benefits package - including medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus a 401(k) plan.

  • Unlimited paid time off incl. major holidays.

  • Company-sponsored onboarding and team offsites in Germany.

About RobCo

Founded in Munich in 2020, RobCo leads the transition toward fully Autonomous Industrial Robotics. Our mission is to deploy RobCo in every factory - solving the industrial labor shortage through end-to-end robotics that just works. Powered by Physical AI, our solutions combine a scalable modular hardware architecture with intelligent software that adapts to your use case, improves over time, and requires zero upfront investment through our Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS) model.

We solve our customers' most pressing pain points - labor shortage, cost pressure, workplace safety, and national reshoring - across the full spectrum of Autonomous Industrial Robotics. With $160M raised from investors including Lightspeed, Lingotto Innovation, and Sequoia, 200+ people globally, and 2.5M+ operating hours in the field, we are deploying robots in factories across Europe and the United States - with our US operations headquartered in Austin, TX, and our RobCo Bay Area Demo Lab in San Francisco.

Don’t meet every single requirement? If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

At RobCo, applicants are selected regardless of ethnic origin, religion, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation. All decisions throughout the recruitment process are based solely on applicants’ qualifications, skills, knowledge, and experience, as well as relevant business requirements.

What you need to know about the Austin Tech Scene

Austin has a diverse and thriving tech ecosystem thanks to home-grown companies like Dell and major campuses for IBM, AMD and Apple. The state’s flagship university, the University of Texas at Austin, is known for its engineering school, and the city is known for its annual South by Southwest tech and media conference. Austin’s tech scene spans many verticals, but it’s particularly known for hardware, including semiconductors, as well as AI, biotechnology and cloud computing. And its food and music scene, low taxes and favorable climate has made the city a destination for tech workers from across the country.

Key Facts About Austin Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 180,500; 13.7% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Dell, IBM, AMD, Apple, Alphabet
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, hardware, cloud computing, software, healthtech
  • Funding Landscape: $4.5 billion in VC funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Live Oak Ventures, Austin Ventures, Hinge Capital, Gigafund, KdT Ventures, Next Coast Ventures, Silverton Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Texas, Southwestern University, Texas State University, Center for Complex Quantum Systems, Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, Texas Advanced Computing Center
