Provide senior-level Windows server and virtualization administration, storage and backup maintenance, and IAM support. Assist with Exchange to Microsoft 365 migration, Active Directory restructuring, PC/laptop deployments, and intermittent help desk support for users. Develop support documentation and collaborate with the agency's IR team.

The Senior Systems Administrator / Help Desk Support will support the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA) on the Legacy Modernization project. This role is responsible for maintaining and upgrading a Microsoft Windows Enterprise environment, including on-premises physical servers, virtual devices, storage solutions, and backup systems. The Systems Administrator will collaborate with TSBPA's Information Resources team to deliver IT services across server administration and end-user support functions. Immediate project work includes assisting with the migration of the agency's Exchange solution to Microsoft 365 and supporting Active Directory restructuring efforts. The role also involves intermittent help desk support to agency staff and participation in PC and laptop deployment activities.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor, maintain, and update physical server hosts and virtual server environments in partnership with IR team staff.
- Monitor and maintain virtual storage solutions and backup systems to ensure operational continuity.
- Implement required security parameters within the Windows server environment in accordance with agency security policies.
- Manage system and user account administration for server licensing, software applications, and related solutions.
- Provide identity and access management (IAM) for on-premises and cloud-based systems as required.
- Assist with the migration of the Exchange environment to Microsoft 365 and support deployment of Office 365.
- Support Microsoft Active Directory analysis, restructuring, and domain environment upgrades in coordination with the network engineer and IR staff.
- Initialize and deploy new PCs and laptops, including updates to operating systems, firmware, and applications not covered by automated tools.
- Provide help desk support to agency staff, including assistance with user accounts, passwords, permissions, VPN access, printer issues, and wireless connectivity.
- Assist in the development of documentation related to technical support responsibilities and support procedures.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- 10 years of experience supporting Microsoft Operating Systems environments as an IT Systems / Server Administrator.
- 8 years of experience in the implementation and support of Active Directory Domains, Dell Storage Solutions, VMware environments, Exchange, and M365 environments, including backup solutions.
- 8 years of experience communicating and providing direct technical support to agency business units and stakeholders.
- 8 years of extensive experience providing configuration and end-user support for Microsoft Office 365 applications.
- 8 years of experience managing user accounts and network configurations to meet business and technical requirements.
- 5 years of experience implementing required security parameters to meet agency security policy requirements.
- 5 years of experience completing assessments to develop strategic recommendations and roadmaps.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience documenting support requirements and procedures.
- 3 years of experience providing IT desktop support to end users in a state public sector environment.
Additional Requirements:
- Texas based candidates preferred.
- Must be available to work outside of normal business hours on weekends, evenings, and holidays as requested
