Job Overview:

We are seeking an energetic, highly curious Senior Technical Project Manager (TPM) to manage the delivery and strategic evolution of our content authoring platforms. This person acts as a critical point of contact for project delivery, combining a software development management background with deep data literacy. Moving beyond traditional tracking, this role directly contributes to the system roadmap, shapes technical requirements, and drives technical discussions alongside engineering leads. Additionally, this role serves as the primary technical liaison with external vendors and state partners, leading discussions around system integrations, interoperability, and assessment technology standards.

Job Responsibilities:

Roadmap Contribution & Technical Design Leadership

  • Manage roadmap: Work closely with the Technical Directors and engineering leads to actively contribute to the system roadmap, assessing technical feasibility and infrastructure scaling needs of AI and non-AI software projects.
  • Facilitate design discussions: Facilitate and guide technical design discussions, asking critical questions to help developers hash out complex logic blockages.
  • Author technical requirements: Distill high-level business goals into detailed technical specifications and API boundary definitions.
  • Proactively manage roadblocks: Identify structural technical risks early, mitigate system constraints, and drive key technology choices.

External Technical Communications & Interoperability

  • Manage external tech communications: Serve as the primary technical interface for external organizations, state educational agencies, and client integration teams.
  • Lead data interoperability: Own technical discussions surrounding cross-platform data exchange, focusing heavily on secure integrations and standardized data pipelines.
  • Enforce edtech standards: Oversee the implementation of core educational data frameworks and ecosystem standards (e.g., QTI).
  • Align external vendor APIs: Establish clear technical data mappings and interface requirements with third-party vendors to guarantee plug-and-play platform compatibility.

Technical Analysis & Production Triage

  • Investigate runtime anomalies: Triage complex backend system issues by analyzing underlying data flows and systemic impacts.
  • Execute root-cause analysis: Perform deep-dive evaluations on production failures and compile post-incident reports.
  • Query relational databases: Write custom SQL Server scripts from scratch to extract, validate, and isolate data errors.
  • Deconstruct error logs: Review application and server logs to track down persistent bugs or data pipeline failures.

Deployment & Configuration Control

  • Manage release windows: Oversee system deployments and operational maintenance windows alongside DevOps and SRE teams.
  • Enforce quality control: Partner directly with QA engineers throughout the development lifecycle to maintain execution standards.
  • Optimize knowledge bases: Structure Confluence repositories to ensure reference materials are searchable and accurate.

Job Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technology-focused discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 7+ years of experience in technical project management (or Master's degree with 5+ years), including:
    • Management background: 5+ years directly managing software engineers, executing hands-on software development, or leading technical system design.
    • Analysis background: 2+ years operating within data analysis, product support, or technical coordination roles.
  • Interoperability Literacy: Familiarity with modern data transmission protocols, RESTful APIs, webhooks, and secure data-sharing frameworks.
  • Database proficiency: Proficient hands-on capability writing relational SQL Server scripts from scratch to analyze datasets.
  • Technical literacy: Solid understanding of back-end application architecture, web application interactions, and automated data flows.
  • Delivery execution: Demonstrated capability tracking large-scale engineering lifecycles from planning through deployment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AI & Machine Learning Literacy: Strong conceptual understanding of AI foundational components (e.g., Large Language Models, generative workflows, vector search) to confidently support upcoming AI-driven platform expansions.
  • AI Tooling Efficiency: Hands-on proficiency using AI productivity tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or automated project management workflows) to accelerate technical writing and delivery metrics.
  • EdTech Interoperability: Direct experience configuring, testing, or launching integrations utilizing the QTI framework.
  • Domain curiosity: Strong desire to get hands dirty learning the multilayered mechanics of complex educational software applications.
  • Incident management: Prior experience working in high-pressure production support, site reliability, or incident management environments.
