Mob Entertainment is a startup multimedia studio that is best known for our hit indie horror game "Poppy Playtime".  This franchise is one of the hottest new properties in gaming, and our team is naturally expanding as our ambition expands.  To give a taste of our brand's popularity, more than 100 billion YouTube views of Poppy Playtime related content have occurred since the game's launch 4 years ago.

The Role

We're looking for a Senior Writer for our rapid prototyping Skunk Works team.  You'll be responsible for investing in and assisting in the development of pre-existing concepts that require refinement, building and proving out.  You’ll be critical in communicating with and setting expectations with any and all company and concept stakeholders while owning, and explaining the narrative structure of concepts.  You will play a critical role in clarifying the core values, themes, tone, and mood of the worlds our prototypes live in, including characters, dialogue, and narrative arcs that could convincingly sustain episodic content into the future should the prototype be a success.

Responsibilities

  • Play a critical role in reviewing, clarifying and refining game concepts from a backlog
  • Interpret concepts with authors, manifesting narrative arcs for each concept that could sustain episodic content
  • Using the premise of any given concept, you define plot, theme, tone, mood and create characters and settings to inform the prototype efforts
  • Story boarding story beats to inform development of prototypes
  • Advise and critique co-dev teams’ prototype work where necessary
  • Drive the organization and conducting of recording sessions for story-based audio

Requirements

  • 10+ years writing for games
  • Storyboarding experience in games, TV, and / or movies
  • Strong understanding and passion for soft/gray in-world storytelling
  • Solid communication and collaboration skills in a remote-first environment
  • Service-based attitude.  You thrill in bringing worlds and characters to life, regardless of origin

Nice to Have

  • Experience collaborating with design and art on world building implementation
  • Experience directing voice actors
  • Passion for the horror genre and atmospheric storytelling
  • Storyboarding experience
