This position will work onsite in our Austin office.

Human-in-the-Loop:
At LegalZoom, we operate with a human-in-the-loop model, where AI enhances—rather than replaces—human judgment. We believe the strongest outcomes for our customers come from thoughtfully integrating human expertise with AI capabilities to improve accuracy, safety, and decision-making.

Position Summary:

The Small Business Expert is a NEW dual-mandate role for LegalZoom's expanding small-business services. Half the job is design: helping expand the Business Manager program.  The other half is proof: running the expanded pilot yourself as the consultative relationship owner and trusted advisor for a live book of clients. As the pilot proves out, this role is positioned to grow into leading and managing the team that scales it.

Mandatory experience: working in an accounting firm, legal firm or back office of a small business helping to operate and grow small businesses.

Expertise in or general knowledge of:

  • Business formations; LLC, C-Corp, S-Corp, Non-Profits

  • Multi-state setup and expansion

  • Government Compliance

  • Workforce management

  • Contracts

  • Tax filings

  • Bookkeeping

  • Obtaining and maintaining business licenses and permits

Desired specific industry experience:

  • Professional services

  • Real estate (agents and landlords)

  • Retail

  • Transportation

  • Non-profit

An ideal candidate has this experience from either side of the desk: someone from an accounting or attorney firm who supported small-business clients directly, or someone who worked inside an SMB's back office managing operations across areas like the above.

What you'll do:

  • Run the pilot hands-on: own a book of small-business relationships end-to-end — acquisition, needs assessment, solution design, and retention — measured by how well you deliver on the jobs above, not just by what you sell.

  • Turn pilot learnings into the playbook, then help build and lead the team that scales the program beyond you.

  • Own a book of small-business relationships end-to-end: acquisition, needs assessment, solution design, and retention.

  • Run consultative discovery with owners; translate their situation into the right mix of formation, multi-state, compliance, workforce, contracts, and financial services.

  • Hit revenue, attach-rate, and retention targets while sustaining a trusted-advisor relationship (not transactional churn).

  • Be the single point of contact clients trust year-round; check in proactively at key business moments (hiring, expansion into new states, renewals, filings).

  • Partner with product, service delivery, and specialists on complex needs.

  • Help shape the expanded Business Manager service model as an early, senior member of the Austin team.

Requirements:
  • 5+ years in a consultative, relationship-owning role serving small-business owners.

  • Demonstrated ownership of a book of business with revenue and retention accountability.

  • Fluency in how small businesses actually run: entities, multi-state obligations, hiring/workforce, contracts, cash flow, compliance.

  • Track record of consultative selling with cross-sell/attach across multiple services (bundles, not single transactions).

  • Strong trust-building and communication with owner-operators.

Nice to have:
  • Experience at a small-business services competitor or adjacent platform

  • Small-business / relationship-manager background

  • Credentials signaling expertise

  • Track record helping SMBs get off the ground and scale (startup-to-growth-stage experience)
