The opportunity

Our client is looking for a proactive Social Media Manager to take ownership of its social media presence and help strengthen its visibility within its local service area.

The company provides residential and commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration services in Columbus, Ohio. Its social media activity is currently inconsistent, and it is looking for someone who can build a clear content strategy, create engaging content, and turn its existing field footage and photographs into a consistent, professional online presence.

This role goes beyond scheduling posts. You'll be responsible for deciding which channels deserve the most attention, understanding what content performs best, and using measurable results to improve visibility and generate relevant inquiries. You'll work directly with the owner and coordinate with the local team to capture authentic content that reflects the quality of the company's work.

About the Organization

Our client is a residential and commercial HVAC and refrigeration contractor serving customers in Columbus, Ohio. The company values people, Islamic principles, fair treatment, and sustainable business growth.

The team wants to build a stronger and more consistent digital presence that reflects its work, connects with the local community, and helps potential customers discover its services.

What you will do
  • Develop and manage a social media content strategy across Google Business Profile, Nextdoor, Yelp, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

  • Identify the most valuable channels and content formats for reaching local customers, prioritizing efforts based on expected return and actual performance.

  • Repurpose available content across platforms while adapting posts to each channel's audience, format, and search behavior.

  • Work with the local team to identify useful footage and photographs to capture in the field, providing clear briefs and practical guidance.

  • Turn raw photos and videos into polished, engaging, on-brand social media posts and short-form videos.

  • Maintain a consistent posting schedule and ensure the company's social media pages remain active and relevant.

  • Write clear, engaging captions and respond to routine comments, likes, and simple customer interactions.

  • Identify quote requests and specific sales inquiries, routing them to the appropriate sales team members rather than handling the sales process yourself.

  • Follow existing brand guidelines and use the company's established assets in Canva and Figma.

  • Monitor channel performance, analyze engagement and visibility, and adjust the content strategy based on measurable results.

  • Apply SEO fundamentals and platform-specific best practices to improve content discoverability and local visibility.

  • Take proactive ownership of the social media function, bringing forward ideas and recommendations rather than waiting for detailed instructions.

  • Explore paid advertising opportunities where useful to support the company's visibility and business goals.

Requirements What you bring
  • Demonstrated experience managing and growing social media channels, supported by measurable results or examples of successful work.

  • Strong strategic judgment, with the ability to decide which platforms, content formats, and activities deserve priority.

  • A solid understanding of SEO fundamentals and how content is discovered across social platforms and local business listings.

  • Strong short-form video editing and image editing skills, with the ability to turn raw assets into polished, engaging content.

  • Experience analyzing performance data and using insights to improve content, engagement, visibility, and inquiries.

  • A proactive, self-directed approach, with the ability to take ownership of social media strategy and execution.

  • Strong written English, particularly for captions, social media copy, and community replies.

  • The ability to brief and coordinate with a local team to capture relevant footage and photographs.

  • Familiarity with brand guidelines and design tools such as Canva and Figma, or the ability to work effectively with existing brand assets.

  • The ability to repurpose content efficiently while maintaining quality and adapting it to different platforms.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with paid social advertising or openness to recommending and managing paid campaigns where appropriate.

  • Experience working with US-based businesses or audiences.

  • Previous experience in HVAC, home services, local businesses, or other service-based industries.

How the Engagement works
  • The hiring process begins with a conversation with Apricot to discuss your experience, communication style, availability, and mutual expectations. Candidates may also be asked to complete a practical assessment relevant to the role.

  • This is a remote contractor engagement, available on either a full-time (40 hours/week) or part-time (20 hours/week) basis, depending on the agreed arrangement.

  • You will work directly with the company owner, taking ownership of social media strategy, content creation, publishing, community engagement, and performance analysis.

  • Some overlap with US Eastern Time is required for check-ins and alignment, but continuous online availability is not expected.

  • You are expected to provide your own laptop and equipment, maintain reliable internet connectivity, and have a suitable remote working environment.

  • If you contract through Apricot, planned check-ins will help assess how the engagement is progressing and address any issues that arise.
