Software Development Engineer III, Core Platform

The Core Platform team is a part of the Experience Platform org which enables developers across Expedia Group (EG, in short) to create and maintain their applications, user experiences and business domains, with reduced friction and increased leverage of cross-EG solutions and communities of practice.
Our focus is to develop technology platforms/frameworks that help develop reliable, scalable, production-ready, and brand-agnostic applications in a consistent and accelerated manner. Application developers can go from zero to app within minutes using our templates/generators and then extend, maintain and evolve the application using our libraries/modules/plugins. This results in increased developer productivity worth millions of dollars.
As a senior software developer on this team you will have the opportunity to create our next generation of innovative platforms for building the travel shopping experience of the future! Successful candidates have an established history of developing and delivering sophisticated distributed software systems and are driven to achieve results in a fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Research and recommend frameworks, architectural/code design patterns, and industry standards in development methodologies and technologies.
  • Identify areas of improvements within the code and suggest solutions.
  • Lead by example in advancing the team’s design methodology and quality programming practices, and mentor/coach junior engineers to up-level team standards.
  • Lead a community of practice and bring people together for shared learning via excellent documentation, blog posts, and tech talks.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or equivalent experience  PLUS 5+ years of software development experience with a focus on developing highly available, resilient and secure web applications or platforms/SDKs using JavaScript/Typescript and Node.js.
  • Have strong technical proficiency and are capable of solving complex problems by applying critical thinking and a deep understanding of software design principles, algorithms and data structures.
  • Experience using HapiJS/ExpressJS and/or GraphQL preferred
  • Experience using code versioning tools (e.g. Git), CI/CD systems (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub Actions, etc.), cloud technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, etc.) and agile development methodologies (e.g. Scrum, Kanban).
  • Using your strong communication skills, you articulate your ideas to peers and leaders, providing details and supporting your ideas with data where applicable.
