SailPoint is seeking a Backend Software Engineer (REMOTE) working with Java or GoLang to work remotely and help build a new cloud-based SaaS identity analytics product.  We are looking for well-rounded backend or full stack engineers who are passionate about building and delivering reliable, scalable microservices and infrastructure for SaaS products. This is a unique opportunity to build something from scratch but have the backing of an organization that has the muscle to take it to market quickly, with a very satisfied customer base. 

This position will have an On Call rotation of every 6 weeks. Every four to six weeks, this person will be on call 24X7 for 1 week (7 days).

Responsibilities 

  • Deliver efficient, maintainable, robust Java and GoLang based microservices

  • Produce designs and rough estimates, and implement features based on product requirements. 

  • Collaborate with peers on designs, code reviews, and testing. 

  • Produce unit and end-to-end tests to improve code quality and maximize code coverage for new and existing features. 

Requirements 

  • 2+ years of professional software development experience 

  • Experience with either Java or GoLang

  • Great communication skills 

  • BS in Computer Science, or a related field 

  • Proficient experience with object-oriented analysis and design skills 

  • Proficient experience with an object-oriented programming language and techniques 

  • Proficient understanding of Java Frameworks 

  • Experience of working with Web APIs

Preferred 

  • Experience with AWS or other cloud environment

  • Experience with Continuous Delivery 

  • Experience instrumenting code for gathering production performance metrics 

  • Experience with DynamoDB, Postgres, or SQL

  • Experience with KMS Kafka based messaging

First Week

  • Complete HR and IT onboarding (accounts, access, security training).

  • Set up development environment, local repositories, and required tools.

  • Read documentation (architecture, coding guidelines, API specs).

  • Work with your buddy and manager to understand team mission

  • Get familiar with the architecture, database structure, and infrastructure (cloud services, CI/CD pipelines, microservices, etc.) for the domain the team is responsible for.

  • Review recent code changes and pull requests to understand coding standards and best practices.

  • Login to MyApps using Sailpoint email and password. See what apps you have on your Launchpad.

  • Familiarize yourself with the look-and-feel of Toolbox, a collection of apps and tools used by SaaS devs and testers.

  • Request an account for Identity University.

  • Register for the online class Introduction to Identity Security with SailPoint and watch it.

  • After completing the previous course, register for the class IdentityNow Introduction and start watching it.

  • Join relevant mailing lists and slack channels - your buddy can guide you

  • Complete first PR and your first task 

30 day plan

  • Attend daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and other Agile ceremonies.

  • Shadow senior engineers in code reviews and pair programming sessions.

  • Identify key stakeholders: product managers, designers, DevOps, QA, and customer success teams.

  • By now you should have been able to knock out a few bugs/tasks

  • Review PRs from other developers on the team

  • Take on medium-sized tasks or user stories from the backlog.

  • Write meaningful unit tests and contribute to test automation efforts.

  • Understand the team’s testing strategy (unit tests, integration tests, automation).

  • Debug build pipeline failures 

  • Get familiar with Feature Flags and LaunchDarkly

  • Get familiar with monitoring tools, OpenSearch, Kibana, Prometheus  

  • Get familiar with your team's deliverables for the quarter

  • Work through understanding architecture and tech stack for the services the team owns, meet with senior engineer and learn the service architecture

60 day plan 

  • Provide feedback in code reviews and mentor newer team members where possible.

  • Join discussions on technical debt, refactoring, or architectural decisions.

  • Review PRs for team members outside your immediate team

  • Tag team with a team member on a new Epic - Pair Programming

  • Learn about monitoring, logging, and debugging production issues.

  • Understand DevOps practices: CI/CD pipelines, feature flags, and infrastructure-as-code.

  • Optimize existing code and propose enhancements for performance, scalability, or maintainability.

  • Contribute to technical documentation.

  • Participate in post-mortems for incidents or issues and suggest preventive measures.

90 day plan  

  • On call rotation 

  • Complete Epics, stories and bugs with limited guidance 

  • Independently contributing quality code and participating in Agile processes.

  • Taking ownership of features or improvements in the product.

  • Collaborating effectively with the team and other stakeholders.

  • Understanding SaaS-specific engineering challenges and best practices.

  • Demonstrating initiative in learning and improving team productivity.

Benefits and Compensation listed vary based on the location of your employment and the nature of your employment with SailPoint.

As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the SailPoint Corporate Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission, along with potential eligibility for equity participation. SailPoint maintains broad salary ranges for its roles to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect SailPoint’s differing products, industries, and lines of business. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity. We estimate the base salary, for US-based employees, will be in this range from (min-mid-max, USD):

$74,060 - $105,800 - $137,540

Base salaries for employees based in other locations are competitive for the employee’s home location.
