Position Summary

As a member of a dynamic engineering team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to and influence the design of new features, keep updated of new features distributed in major new releases of Windows operating systems and work in the area of file systems, clustering, security and solution for cloud security.

The Software Engineer will build and implement new features and maintain existing features in CTE product. This position with other Developers, QA engineers, support engineers and Product Managers throughout the software development life cycle.

Essential Functions

  • Research, design and implement cross-platform kernel software, mostly at the file system and storage level layers.
  • Design code with special attention to performance and correctness.
  • Collaborate with the project managers in US to understand the customer requirements and use cases. Work with architects to expand the requirement and write the design/functional specifications.
  • Work with support and compatibility teams to solve customer escalations.
  • Attend North America customer calls to understand customer configuration, collect relevant technical logs, analyze them and provide the solution in timely manner. Provide the necessary timely updates to customer on escalation progress.
  • Develop unit tests and ensure quality of the product; required to work with the system test team to define test plans, troubleshoot and resolve software defects.
  • The candidate must be able to use the Linux tool chain both in user space and in the kernel in order to debug issues and develop code for FUSE based file system code.
  • The candidate must be able to write functional specs using confluence and wiki tools, participate in review meetings, and be able to quickly prototype to evaluate feasibility.
  • They will use debuggers to determine the root cause of issues in code they or other team members have written to improve the product quality.
  • On occasion, the candidate will help triage customer reported defects, either working with the customer directly, or through the support organization.
  • The candidate must be very transparent and communicative in their work, as the team comprises QA, Documentation, and support organizations.
  • The candidate participates in daily huddles as the team uses SAFe Agile for planning and progress discussions and work individually or in a group setting with their peers on the assigned tasks and stories.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in field with a minimum of 1-4+ years of relevant work experience or Master’s degree in field with 0-2+ years of relevant work experience (e.g., Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Engineering)
  • Experience in designing/implementing and debugging software in multi-processor machine architectures
  • Experience in clustering and distributed file systems design is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of virtualization - virtual machine (VM) and Hypervisor system design and Docker/containers
  • Strong C/C++ and GO
  • Expert troubleshooting and debugging skills
  • Experience with Kubernetes
  • Knowledge and passion for Agile software development, solid software engineering practices, release processes and project life cycles
  • Knowledgeable with the Intel/AMD 64-bit architectures

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree a plus in one of the disciplines listed above, ie Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Engineering)
  • Experience with the implementation of Linux Userspace Filesystem Framework (FUSE), system calls and vector table
  • Performance engineering
  • Familiarity with AWS and Azure IaaS environments
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Must be able to write clear functional specifications and design documents and engage with customers on technical discussions
  • Self-directed; requires minimal supervision on work products
  • Strong team player
  • Willingness to proactively interact with the team and achieve results in a dynamic environment
