Lob was founded in 2013 by technical co-founders with a vision to connect the world one mailbox at a time. Today, we're transforming the way businesses use direct mail and bringing the power of technology to a traditionally manual channel.

Our modern logistics and fulfillment engine helps businesses to build and scale high-quality, personalized direct mail programs without the operational burden. As we grow to meet the evolving needs of our customers and expand our product offerings, we’re building a team to shape the future of direct mail.

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Partner closely with the Product team and other key stakeholders to help implement new features and services customers love
  • Be responsible for leading engineering projects from design to implementation, and into ongoing operation
  • Coach, mentor, grow, and support your direct reports
  • Work with other Engineering leaders to support and grow the culture of our engineering team
  • Own the performance and outcomes of your team, shipping high quality products and features

What you will bring to this role…

  • 2+ years of experience managing high performing software engineering teams in a fast-paced, SaaS startup environment
  • Full-stack (database, backend, and frontend) experience in a modern technology stack. You were an experienced software engineer before becoming a manager.
  • A “move fast, take action” mentality. We have a very successful product and our customers have high expectations for their mail quality. Meeting their expectations sometimes requires us to quickly adapt and learn and implement new technologies.
  • Experience leading teams of engineers on technical projects. We’ll want to hear how your teammates developed and grew under your leadership.
  • Knowledge of at least one mainstream programming language, including being able to write, read, and understand code in that language. We primarily use Node.js and Go at Lob.
  • Experience with modern practices related to testing, QA, DevOps, CI/CD, observability, and service ownership
  • Ownership of mission critical services, and working with teams responsible for on-call rotations supporting production customer workloads.
  • Great communication skills. You should be able to explain your approach and the impact of your work to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a way that is clear to all.
