The Home Lending Originations Technology group is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Senior Manager responsible for delivering innovative, agentic-enabled, large-scale, retail mortgage originations capabilities. The Originations team provides industry leading tools and digital platforms that enable our Home Lending team to reliably originate regulatory and policy-compliant home loans and rapidly respond and scale to seize market opportunities. This position will set technical direction for a portfolio of applications and key capabilities, lead the technology team in the application of agentic AI and other target state technologies and partner closely with our Product team to manage capacity and define the implementation approach for all new and changed capabilities.
Position Description
  • Manage, coach, and develop teams of experienced engineers and engineering managers in roles with moderate complexity and risk, responsible for building high quality capabilities with modern technologies
  • Ensure adherence to the Banking Product and Platform Architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements with each release
  • Partner with, engage and influence architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, while understanding next generation domain architecture to enable application migration paths to target-state architectures; for example, cloud readiness, application modernization and data strategy
  • Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for driving resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standards
  • Act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and the teams to make decisions and help remove impediments, obstacles, and friction while encouraging constant learning, experimentation, and a culture of continuous improvement
  • Build engineering skills side-by-side in the codebase, conduct peer reviews to evaluate quality and solution alignment to technical direction, and guide design, as needed
  • Interpret, develop, and ensure security, stability, and scalability within functions of technology with low to moderate complexity, as well as identify, manage and mitigate technology and enterprise risk
  • Collaborate, partner, and consult with the Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices.
  • Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers.
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources for technology engineering including career development and performance management for engineers and managers on the team
  • Hire, build and guide a culture of talent development to have the skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for product areas and products to meet business objectives and strategy, as well as conduct performance management for engineers and managers
  • Drive architecture and development of cloud-native, microservices-based systems supporting large-scale workloads.
  • Champion the adoption of AI and agentic systems across Originations, including:
    • Intelligent insights and anomaly detection
    • Guided root-cause analysis and remediation
    • Automation to reduce operational toil
  • Partner with architecture and product teams to embed AI-driven experiences into Originations workflows.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow high-performing software engineering teams, including geographically distributed teams.
  • Drive a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 3+ years of management or leadership experience
  • 4+ years' experience with Agile development and DevOps methodologies.
  • 4+ years' experience leading application development teams utilizing modern technologies (Microservices, Java, .NET Core, Containers, Databases (Oracle, Mongo), Kafka/MQ, Angular, Workflow Automation (IBM BAW, jBPM)

Desired Qualifications:
  • 4+ years' experience with Agile development and DevOps methodologies.
  • 4+ years' experience leading application development teams utilizing modern technologies (Microservices, Java, .NET Core, Containers, Databased (Oracle, Mongo), Kafka/MQ, Angular, Workflow Automation (IBM BAW, JBPM)
  • Experience driving the adoption and effective use of AI code generation and agentic code development tools and delivering generative and agentic AI solutions as part of the product(s) supported.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management and project management skills. Extremely good in verbal, presentation, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Good negotiation, conflict resolution and decision-making skills.
  • Experience delivering solutions for large, complex financial services organizations including specific experience in consumer lending applications.
  • Proven experience leading large Agile teams (20+ engineers) across multiple Scrum teams.
  • Proven ability to set challenging, measurable goals for teams and individuals, driving towards those goals, communicating why the goals are important and regularly communicating progress to team and leadership.
  • Experience providing effort estimates, identifying resource needs, and enforcing project and delivery standards
  • Demonstrated experience in leading strategy roadmap in a large technically complex environment
