Description

Senior SDET – MVIP The Role

As a Senior SDET for MVIP at Realtor.com, you will be a key technical contributor responsible for the quality of the systems that power Market VIP—from lead eligibility and allocation through Concierge vetting, delivery, CRM routing, and broker/team-lead management.

MVIP is a subscription lead product in which brokers and teams purchase a share of eligible buyer leads in defined markets. Leads may be delivered as live transfers, email prospects, or priority callback opportunities, making correctness, fulfillment, routing, and customer visibility critical to the business.

You will design and evolve test architecture for distributed services, allocation logic, APIs, event-driven workflows, data pipelines, and RealPro Dashboard experiences. You will work hands-on in code, influence system design, identify quality risks early, and mentor engineers in modern testing practices.

What You’ll Do Strategic Quality Planning
  • Define and maintain a layered test strategy for MVIP services, including unit, integration, contract, end-to-end, performance, data-quality, and resilience testing.

  • Validate the MVIP lead lifecycle: market and ZIP eligibility, lead allocation, Concierge vetting, live-transfer or prospect delivery, CRM routing, lead status updates, reassignment, and reporting.

  • Develop risk-based test plans for allocation fairness, fulfillment pacing, duplicate prevention, idempotency, retries, fallback behavior, and cross-product routing.

  • Help validate the transition from legacy Share of Voice allocation toward EVR-based fulfillment and ensure customer-facing outcomes align with contractual expectations.

Technical Leadership
  • Drive testing for backend services, REST/GraphQL APIs, event-driven workflows, queues, batch processes, and data pipelines supporting MVIP.

  • Test integrations across Global Lead Allocation, ARM, Concierge, Groups/API services, CRM systems, Salesforce, RealPro Dashboard, and the RealPro App.

  • Advocate for testable designs, including stable schemas, explicit contracts, deterministic allocation behavior, useful logs and metrics, traceability, and actionable failure signals.

  • Validate Concierge workflows such as vetting outcomes, live transfers, callback handling, prospect delivery, and fallback to centralized email or CRM delivery.

RealPro Dashboard and Customer Workflows
  • Build automated coverage for broker, team-lead, admin, ISA, and agent experiences in RealPro Dashboard.

  • Test account linking, login, role-based access, new MVIP team signup, agent and admin invitations, buyer-lead visibility, lead status updates, CSV exports, and lead reassignment.

  • Validate lead-routing configuration and bi-directional CRM integrations used by MVIP customers.

  • Test agent pause, removal, reassignment, release, and offboarding workflows while preserving historical lead-assignment data and preventing unauthorized access.

  • Validate product access and customer behavior when MVIP accounts are cancelled, expired, or migrated from legacy portals.

Test Automation and Data Validation
  • Design and maintain reusable automation for APIs, services, contracts, events, data stores, and customer workflows using Python, Java, TypeScript, or Node.js.

  • Use tools such as pytest, REST Assured, TestNG/JUnit, Postman/Newman, Pact, and schema-validation frameworks.

  • Create utilities to validate:

    • MVIP eligibility and market rules

    • Share of Voice and EVR fulfillment calculations

    • Allocation and fallback decisions

    • Lead status and assignment history

    • CRM and Concierge delivery outcomes

    • Role-based access and customer permissions

    • Agent reassignment and offboarding behavior

  • Develop test-data strategies for markets, ZIP clusters, broker teams, agents, ISAs, lead states, fulfillment ranges, and CRM configurations.

Performance, Resilience, and Observability
  • Design performance and load tests for high-volume allocation, Concierge delivery, CRM fan-out, dashboard lead queries, bulk reassignment, and reporting.

  • Test service behavior under retries, delayed events, duplicate messages, partial outages, stale data, and downstream dependency failures.

  • Use logs, metrics, traces, allocation records, call outcomes, and fulfillment dashboards to diagnose issues and improve test signal.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with engineering, product, data, Analytics, Concierge operations, customer success, and account-management teams.

  • Pair with developers to implement functional, integration, contract, and workflow tests in service codebases.

  • Participate in customer-focused end-to-end testing across RealPro Dashboard, MVIP services, legacy systems, CRM integrations, and the RealPro App.

  • Help establish quality gates for APIs, allocation logic, fulfillment metrics, customer workflows, and release readiness.

Mentorship and Continuous Improvement
  • Mentor SDETs and software engineers in service-level testing, distributed-system debugging, contract testing, test-data management, and observability-driven validation.

  • Create reusable patterns and paved paths that help teams add reliable automation quickly.

  • Participate in incident reviews and convert production defects, allocation discrepancies, data issues, and customer-impacting failures into lasting test improvements.

  • Evaluate AI-assisted testing, automated triage, anomaly detection, and flakiness-reduction tools for MVIP workflows.

What You’ll Bring
  • 5+ years of software or test-engineering experience, including substantial hands-on work with backend services, APIs, microservices, or event-driven systems.

  • 2+ years owning or leading test strategy and automation for a product area, service domain, or engineering team.

  • Experience testing distributed systems involving APIs, queues, events, batch jobs, data pipelines, or third-party integrations.

  • Strong debugging skills using logs, metrics, traces, and production-quality diagnostic data.

  • Proficiency in Python, Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, or Node.js.

  • Experience with API, service, contract, schema, and data-quality testing.

  • Experience validating business rules, allocation logic, routing decisions, lifecycle states, and transactional data.

  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines such as CircleCI, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.

  • Familiarity with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud-native environments, and test-environment management.

  • Experience with performance tools such as JMeter, Gatling, or k6.

  • Demonstrated success reducing flaky tests and improving automation reliability.

  • Experience testing CRM integrations, lead-management systems, contact-center workflows, or customer-facing operational platforms is a plus.

  • Experience with lead allocation, subscription products, fulfillment metrics, broker/team workflows, or marketplace-style routing is a plus.

  • Experience with AI-assisted testing, test generation, anomaly detection, or automated failure triage is a plus.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
