The role is fully remote but may require after-hours maintenance and support.
Enterprise Horizon Consulting Group is seeking a Mid-Level SQL Database Administrator (DBA II) to support enterprise Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Cluster environments for a federal customer. This role is 100% remote, working hours are based on Eastern Time. The DBA will perform day-to-day database administration, maintenance, troubleshooting, monitoring, patching, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and application support activities. This role is contingent upon contract award.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases and database servers.
- Support standalone SQL Server and SQL Cluster environments.
- Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain SQL Server environments.
- Create and configure databases in support of application and business requirements.
- Monitor database availability, capacity, performance, and health.
- Use tools such as Idera and SolarWinds to monitor databases and proactively identify issues.
- Perform SQL performance tuning and index/query optimization.
- Execute and validate database backups and restores.
- Implement and test High Availability and Disaster Recovery processes.
- Troubleshoot database, server, and application integration issues.
- Develop SQL scripts and automation for routine database administration activities.
- Support database security, encryption, auditing, and operational compliance.
- Respond to incidents, service requests, and RFCs through ServiceNow.
- Participate in database maintenance and change-management activities.
- Collaborate with senior DBAs, developers, infrastructure teams, and other technical personnel.
- Maintain technical and operational documentation.
- Contribute to weekly support activity and accomplishment reports.
- Participate in scheduled after-hours maintenance, patching, and server support as needed.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of database administration experience.
- Hands-on Microsoft SQL Server administration experience.
- Experience in several of the following:
- Microsoft SQL Server
- SQL Server Clustering
- SQL scripting
- Backup and restore
- Database patching
- Database performance tuning
- Monitoring and alerting
- High Availability
- Disaster Recovery
- Database security
- Scripting and automation
- Incident troubleshooting
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of cross-functional teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft/SQL professional certification.
- Federal government IT experience.
- Cloud database administration experience.
- ServiceNow experience.
- Idera and/or SolarWinds experience.
- Experience or familiarity with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle, and MS Access.
