Brief Description: 

The Senior Network Administrator will report to the Network Infrastructure Manager and will be responsible for providing ongoing design, deployment, configuration, support, administration, and maintenance of various technological components that comprise the IT Network Infrastructure environment and supporting the combined entities within the Patterson-UTI enterprise.

 

Detailed Description:

 

  • Maintain strong knowledge of the latest network technologies within dynamically changing technical environments across the enterprise.
  • Design, implement, and maintain secure and scalable enterprise, data center, and cloud network infrastructures.
  • Works with multiple customers, stakeholders, and system owners to understand requirements, determine feasibility, analyze cost/benefits, and recommend design solution options.
  • Provides training, assistance, and technical support for users with varying levels of IT knowledge.
  • Completes routine preventative measures and maintains/monitors network security for all Patterson legal entities when needed.
  • Provides advanced level expertise (Tier III) on IT issues related to the network including wired, wireless and network access control.
  • Ensures company standards for network technologies are being followed, including proper performance and capacity requirements.

  • Proven experience developing, operating, and maintaining enterprise network solutions.

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of network protocols, technologies, and principles:

    • Strong understanding of stateful firewall rules and NAT/PAT

    • Strong Layer 3 Skills with advanced experienced and knowledge of BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, ECMP, PBR

    • Strong Layer 2 Skills with advanced experience and knowledge of Spanning Tree protocols and standards

    • Fundamental Understanding of Cloud Networking including AWS, Azure, GCP

    • Layers 1-3 Competence – Design and Advanced Troubleshooting

    • AAA and associated protocols

    • IPAM, DHCP, DNS

    • Cisco Meraki, IOS, IOS-XE, NX-OS, ASA, FTD, AnyConnect

    • Palo Alto Firewalls, GlobalProtect, Fortinet

    • Solarwinds, SNMP Monitoring, Syslog
       

  • Wide breadth of technical knowledge across operating system, network, and monitoring technologies.

  • Strong written/verbal communication, complimented by presentation and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish effective rapport at all levels of the organization.

  • Participate fully in all Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) initiatives and safety programs.

  • Ability to work under stress, meet multiple deadlines and maintain a calm and professional demeanor when adversity is encountered. 
  • Display ability to interact effectively and courteously with all staff, management, and operations personnel; and, to answer all questions effectively in a pleasant and professional manner.
  • Contribute to project success through active, in-person collaboration with colleagues across departments.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel required (up to 25%).

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience designing, building, maintaining, and operating critical network infrastructure
  • Demonstrable skills of advanced network protocols included in the Job Requirements section

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization, both technical and non-technical.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or related field of study.

  • Fortinet NSE 4-7 Certification

  • Palo Alto PCNSE / PCNSA

  • Cisco CCNP/CCIE

  • Extreme Networks Certification

  • Experience with automation via scripting languages
  • Experience working with APIs.

 

Additional Details:

Work is primarily in a climate controlled / office environment with minimal safety / health hazard potential. The employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, stand, or walk with occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor, bending and frequent near vision use for reading and use of computer, telephone, and other office equipment. The job may require work outside of normal business hours, including night, weekends and holidays.
